oh yea, toyota would definitely apply maximum screwage here.

A 2L diesel would destroy the 2.7 in the mileage game--
10% higher fuel cost but 30% or so less fuel. Look at the numbers on toyota's foreign web pages.

Good point! I would like to see that as well!!!

Hilux trucks are actually rated for a good bit more payload capacity (due to full boxed frame and some beefier springs I guess as they have most of the same chassis components else wise)

    I'd expect you'd have enjoyed the 3.0L D4D a lot more.

I heard following whipper's ban he has sequestered himself away working diligently on a 50 state legal replacement diesel for Tacomas.

I'm sure it woukd be better to drive but would also get worse fuel economy. For some reason toyota diesels arent as fuel efficient as I would expect

Modern diesels have come a long way in terms of power and fuel efficiency in the same sentence, however you're still losing a lot of energy to heat and it's still an ICE. You can only expect so much.

Maybe some of these 3.0 d4d owners would kindly tell us what kind of mileage they're getting.

The 1kd-ftv makes about the same torque but sooner and 60 less HP than the 1gr-fe but with the diesel and being a 3.0L I'd expect you get better MPG while having more useable torque (sooner 1800 vs 4000-5000 - shit mileage). And I'm sure the Hilux owners have figured out how to boost those numbers easily while maintaining similar fuel mileage.

    Kind of...

Some of the more stock ones appear to be getting around 26...

Kind of all over the map really I guess.

Bottom line, more useable torque while achieving those numbers.
