I'd love a diesel option. But I won't be selling my truck unless it turns into a lemon. I intend on driving her until the floorboards are see through

over here in belgium 80% is driving diesel .
it only becomes more fuel effective when u drive more then 20.000 miles a year.
a diesel car costs more to perchase and also to maintanance.
a gasoline engine is less complicated to fix.
diesel fumes and dust are so bad that the governement here is now promoting little gasolineengines.
the only benefit i see for a diesel is the bigger torck.
(this is just a personal point of vieuw)

Neither of my diesels (Ram 2500 6.7L and VW TDI) played well with all of the emissions sh!t loaded on to them. Older Rams however like the 5.9s, have far less emissions equipment and tend to run a lot better and burn a lot less fuel (cuz they're not regenerating all the time). I'll stick with toyota gassers. Thanks for listening. :)

PS - and just wait till you need to cough up the $$$ to repair a diesel fuel system!

    I love diesels.
    I have driven many including owning a '03 f350 and '02 tdi.
The fuel savings is better than reported.
    The horsepower is excellent.
    The torque is fantastic.
    And think of this...
Since You use less fuel, is all the emission junk required to have less emissions overall? From a barrel of oil, more gallons of diesel fuel can be made than gas. And less processing is required for diesel per gallon, generating less pollution.
And don't even get me started how ethanol plants pollute, and how putting it in our trucks eats them away. And how about how ethanol in our gas increases our food prices, and causes us to get less MPG in our trucks, thereby forcing us to use more fuel to get somewhere, increasing pollution overall.
My rant may be done, but we need to use more clean diesel fuel (already at the pumps) in this country, to use less fuel as a country, and tell the politicians to quit making this a political issue.
    We want freedom of choice.
And for this thread, it is a diesel Tacoma!

Need a new poll. Judging from Jeep/Ram pricing. Would people be willing to pay $4,500 over the V6 for a diesel V6?

I'd rather pay my own crate diesel (cummins straight 6) and do a 6 speed swap. It would be more expensive but it would be exactly what and how I want it.

Diesels would sell but toyota sells enough tacomas. that they dont want to be first to market in a small volume (by their estimation) market. Expect to see changes when the 1500 ram with 3.0 sells extremely well

Frankly I wouldnt pay any additional price for a diesel motor in a Tacoma unless it was guaranteed to get a minimum of 35 mpg with zero loss in performance. That aint gonna happen.
