Just how good is the Tacoma Auto

I really like the Automatic teamed with the V-6.
The manual which I always buy and love.
Is replaced in this truck. This automatic cannot be out done by a stick.
The engine and tranny are supreme in this truck! 2011 access cab!
Yes I get almost 20 mpg also!

my left foot gets to rest in traffic, that's all i gotta say, i've done manuals before and no more for me, maybe when im 50 and go thru my midlife crisis but til then i enjoy the nonshifting part

7.5 years of driving a manual replaced by 2 weeks so far of an automatic...I will never turn back to manual on my DD...

However, I'd love to have a sporty manual weekend warrior along with my auto truck

 

Manuals are fun as a second vehicle, but in everyday stop n go traffic an auto is the way to go.

 

I had a standard for 5 years prior to this. I love having an automatic especially as a DD. Although I have to admit sometimes it shifts in the wierdest spots. Down hill especially.

 

If I was driving the 4 cylinder Tacoma I would have a manual. With the V6 the auto is just fine. Plus its not my daily driver any more. I got a sporty little manual Celica for that.

 

I would also like to throw out there that there is a lot of maintenance that an automatic requires that most people don't do so if I was buying used I would have a really hard time buying a used automatic. That's why when I was looking at a small daily driver I was looking at Celicas.

 

What else should we do besides a trans fluid change or flush for maintenance?

 

This seems to be a common perspective... and one that I just plain don't understand. I've driven auto and manual, and have always absolutely hated auto in heavy traffic. When the traffic is light, it makes no difference as it goes into overdrive and just cruises, but when you really need control over the transmission, that is when the manual is far superior.

In traffic, auto shifts around like a retard, never in the right ratio, so maybe you try awkwardly to force the ratio, which is never a convenient operation in an auto.. traffic slows down, you need to use the brake. So much easier with a manual, never need to touch the brake unless you need to come to an absolute dead stop. Never have to change pedals, cruise easy, maintain a low gear ratio for engine breaking and superior control.

Different perspective obviously, but that's mine.

I think it all depends on where you live. High traffic area, auto. If you don't have to deal with stop n go, manuals are way more fun. Also, for those of us who know how to drive them, our manuals will leave you nothin but the tail lights. I'm sure many auto's will argue that they are just as fast, but i lined up with my buddy, both of us with 06 Prerunners. both silver, his auto, mine manual. His tires 275/65/16, my tires LT285/75/16. Took him off the line and he never caught up. Then at freeway speeds(70+) he punches it and I down shift n leave him behind. The manuals are faster. With regard to what is better, like I said it has to do with where you are. I have been in gridlock before and it isn't fun with a manual. Would I get rid of it? No, I'd have to let my wife drive my truck all the time then

 

True for some cars but Auto in 2gen is great in heavy traffic. 2nd gear holds until stopping point so almost always truck stays in that gear. I am not sure about 6 speed manual but my 5 speed 1gen was hard since 1st was too low and 2nd was too high most of the time.

 

You talkign about shift patterns. One cable disconnected and 2gen auto becomes manual shift tranny. Its in FSM.
