Oh the jack is useful for pushing the UCA down during a lift install.

Also works great on my corolla that sits about 6" above the ground lol.

I tested the factory bottle jack on the rear diff housing and it worked fine for getting enough height to do a tire change. I did this in a controlled environment to make sure everything was in working order before going on a long trip.

But look at the factory lug wrench. It's deformed from the factory. :( It still works but it's really shitty quality.

Always carry a T-Bar and a couple chunks of 6*6 in the back of the truck..jack sucks but will work in a pinch if not I'm knocking on doors. T bar is good for trailers etc

since putting my lift on and running larger tires, I need to put a wood block under the OEM jack in order to gain enough height. The thing works, but is a POS for the most part

This is how Toyota intended the lug nuts to work. The small chamfer at the end of the lug nut engages the countersink in the wheel. It is a very TEMPORARY setup.

Janster It sounds like you got a POS 'lemon' bottle jack....! I had no problems with mine, but when I got a flat this winter the thing that gave me a serious PITA was the 3 piece tire cranking chingadera. It did the same thing as the one on my old 91 toy, and stripped out at one of the two joints! seriously poor design with the little screw to tighten it and all..... AND (it coulda just been me :anonymous:) but the wheel seemed to be freakin' frozen into place, seeing as it only gets used once every 2-3 years or whatever...it literally (dont tell anyone lol) took me 25 minutes to get my freaking tire out from under my truck....and then like 5 to change it....

but still- I was mighty pissed off and cold (at 10,600 ft elevation in the ski area parking lot at 1900 hrs in the dark..!) by the time it was all taken care of. ( and then when I took it for warranty/repair they said it was just a 'stuck valve stem' no holes or nothing...wtf...?!)

btw- road hazard warranty at discount tire...totally worth it.... if they got them in your area....and yes I am definitely overdue for a hi lift jack.

oh and a breaker bar and 1/2" drive w/ 20mm (i think ) deep socket from lowes....also a good backup. and a great way to ding up ones nice new used fj cruiser wheels with the recessed lug nuts...
I think a custom fabricated tire lowering chingadera would be really nice.if anyone wants to make em. or spot weld the existing one we have.

    there's my .02 x 100.:D

    Ouch :D

I made an extension for the lowering winch that terminates at the bumper just above the license plate. That was the first mod that I did! No more hunting around in the dark. I replaced the jack with a ford 3/4 - 1 ton jack. Similar design but a lot beefier. They are dime a dozen in junk yards. I also carry an 18" breaker bar with socket and a torque wrench for reassembly

I use one of these...$17 at Walmart. Fits in the same underseat compartment as the factory jack, etc. Extendable to 21"

Yes. The steel wheels have cone shaped lug holes. They have for as long as I can remember and I'm 57...

Mine has come in handy plenty of times. Used it to hold up the transmission while I installed a new crossmember.

Perhaps the jack had a hiccup - since its never been used 'ever' since I bought the truck. I did crank it up pretty high without any weight on it....?? Let's just hope I never have to use it again.

I think I hit a square piece of sheet metal that was bouncing along on the highway.... put a 2" slice in the middle of my tread. $250 for a new tire (dueler revo). The other tires are only a year old w/9K miles on them.

And just a month ago (??), road debris knocked a piece of plastic out of my grill. :annoyed: Enough already....

Thanks gang!! Thank God for TPMS, and cell phones!

i carry a battery impact for that situation. had to use the lug wrench once cause i had the impact but not the socket. the lug wrench was almost rounding of the lug nuts. i bought the socket at the parts store i parked at. (lucky to have a flat near buy) much easery in 100 degree heat to do. the jack sucked but it worked. good suggestion on the block of wood. its going in the truck tomorrow:plane:

Yep. Used it on the trail up in the Inyos just this month. My first flat off road. A buddy had a small piece of wood to help keep the jack from slipping into the gravel.
