I'm not familiar with what the 5002 includes, so I'm really just referring to alarms in general. I would be very hesitant to install an alarm unless I had someone with a few installs done helping me out.

I have a feeling that you could get it installed, but you should search around for tutorials on alarm installations before you make any decisions. Here is a good tutorial that I like http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3917413

x2... I wouldn't tackle this myself unless I had been trained to -- I'd be too scared to screw something up.

Get the info and wiring schematics, search online, I just gathered all the info to do the install on my 98 including adding power locks and related relays tonight. It shouldn't be too hard if you have some automotive/electrical knowledge.

it's gonna be -31c tomorrow... so I'll wait til it warms up or I find a heated garage,

the 5002 is a two way. i'd agree that if you have electronics knowledge, its doable. but personally i'd have it installed by an experienced professional. a lot of the installers at places like best buy aren't that great. like when they quote 4 hours and they aren't busy, they don't have that much experience in alarm installs (maybe they are experienced in stereo installs). it should only take 1-2 hours for an experienced installer.

I'd just spend the money on better insurance : ) It's a PIA to install a security system and I wouldn't let any installer monkey touch my vehicles.
