Mud Flaps trimmed (with pics)

Hello Forum,

I decided to trim my front mud flaps. The original measurement from bottom of fender to bottom center of mud flap is 12 inches. The rears measure 10 inches. After the trim the fronts measure 8 14/16 inches & they came out even, thankfully!

I used a die grinder, a small level, a black magic marker, sanding block, course sand paper (used on sheet rock) followed by fine sand paper (used for wet sanding). I don't know the grit of the sand paper. I had them in my tool box. It's my 1st time doing something like this so I am happy with the results. Hope you agree:

1) Measure from the lower fender section down to the bottom of the mud flap. Choose the desired length & mark it with a dot using a black marker.

2) Put the level over the dot, align the level, draw a line accross the width of the flap.

3) Get your die grinder (or cutting tool of your choice) & cut.

4) Get the piece that you cut & align the bottom of it with the newly cut bottm of the flap.

5) Hold it securely, get your marker & trace the curve of the cut piece over the newly cut mud flap.

6) get your die grinder again & slice away.

7) You now have a rough looking mud flap similiar to the original cut.

8) Get the course sand paper with the block & start sanding the edges (long strokes).

9) Do the same with the "wet sand" sand paper.

10) Enjoy!

nice, i trimmed mine the same way. i think it looks better and still keeps rocks and mud from hitting the body.

 

I shortened the fronts by 4" and the rears by 1" to keep them from scraping before I lifted it 3" and now wish I hadn't.
