Road Trip - Phoenix, AZ to Boulder, CO

So I did the longest road trip I've ever done last week - we drove from Phoenix, AZ to Boulder, CO. 903 miles in 15 hrs, the Taco was faultless. Returned yesterday from CO to AZ. With just about every other vehicle I've owned my back started aching after a couple of hrs in the seat - not so in the Taco.

First - Good fuel price for a road trip! Helps if you spend a lot at the supermarket but never cash in the vouchers.

Third - Pretty chilly yesterday, it was below freezing for most of the trip. The heater in the Tcao is kick-ass, the air was so hot that you couldn't hold your hand in front of the vent.

Had a great time, all in all, except I got flashed by a camera at an intersection in Phoenix when I was almost home. I 'forgot' to stop at the red light when turning right . Has this happened to anyone else? Or was the camera flashing randomly as they have been doing in Phoenix recently?

I sure am! I buy all my groceries at Safeway, but my local Safeway doesn't have a gas station. I saw on my receipt that I was owed 11 vouchers of 10c/gal off. I went online and found there was a Safeway gas station on my route (in Payson, AZ) and made sure the tank was empty for when I got there. So I got $1.10 off their normal price.

With hindsight I wish I would have taken some empty cans and filled them as well, as the offer is is only good for one visit.

It made the trip even more affordable!

If only!

For the record, we were going to fly up there but the cheapest flts we could find would have been $450. Then the gas prices dropped like a stone and we considered driving. It was the right decision - we had fun and the total gas costs were about $140-ish. And the Taco enjoyed getting cold - a welcome relief for it as it is used to the Phoenix heat!

 

I have done many cross country trips in the last 10 years, they are fun and you get to see so many places. hope you had fun.

I'm gunna be cashing in 9 of them tomorrrow

 

Do you know if there's a limit to the amount of fuel you can buy? If not, next time I'm taking 2 cars and a whole load of cans.

Edit: I just looked at their website, limit is 30 gallons or $100 (one vehicle only). The Taco with an empty tank plus three 5-gallon tanks will do it.
