I have a 2007 Tacoma Access cab 4x4 V6 with just over 60K. The last couple of days I have had 2 occassions wher the truck will just click then have trouble turning over. Eventually both times it started after 5-6 consecutive attempts to turn the key. My battery is not very old and no CEL. Other times it has fired right up. Anybody else experience this? Any ideas what to look into?
    Thanks
    Justin

I would have the battery checked at autozone or somewhere that checks it for free. Even though it's not very old, I've heard that batteries sometimes sit on shelves in the store for a long time.

If not the battery, I guess the starter could be giving up.

    Good luck!

    :) WELCOME TO THE FORUM.

From your description, it sounds like your starter solenoid is going out. When your engine doesn't crank, does the starter sound like it is spinning but not turning over the motor ? If it is, you may have some bad spots on your starter ring on your flywheel. Check the wires by the starter solenoid and see is any are loose or bare. This is where your problems are . Good Luck.

It could just be a loose / dirty connection on the battery or starter solenoid. Always start with the simple / cheap and work towards the complex / expensive when troubleshooting. 90% of the time it is something simple and not a starter or solenoid.

X2 Disconnect your battery terminals, clean the battery posts and the terminals, then tighten back down. I can't tell you how many times this has been the problem when I've worked on a car that had intermittent starting issues.

Took it by the parts store last night and battery was only half the rated cranking amps. They replaced the battery and it seems to be ok so far.
Thanks for all of your responses.
