FWIW, my 2010 did the same thing. Finally disgusted with the stink as I walked by the front of the truck, I did a full coolant system flush. Replaced the oem fluid with an approved aftermarket coolant and the problem is gone, or at least diminished enough to not be an issue.

FWIW, my truck has a Scangage installed, highest temp seen is 189.

Go to the dealer and complain. They're starting to take note of this issue. They opened a file on my truck and took pics to send to corp. The more they hear from us, the better chance we have getting this fixed...

When parked outside on a warm day, I can smell this through the air vent for the first minute or so after starting. Nothing on the ground and no detectable reduction in radiator level.

Wow! Im not crazy! I have noticed this since I purchased my 2012 in october. First new vehicle that I have ever owned and smelled coolant. I have been watching the coolant tank level like a hawk. Only thing I have ever noticed is dried coolant residue on the overflow outlet. Ive never seen anything on any other part of engine. My family thinks I'm nuts cuz Im always under the hood of my new pickup.

If it passed a pressure check and the coolant level hasn't dropped over a 5 month time frame. It is obvious the coolant isn't leaking.

I'm not saying you are not smelling something, but over 5 months time the level should have shown a drop. Plus if there was a leak it would not have passed the pressure test.

Agreed. It's going in for 5k service in a couple of weeks. I'll bring it up then.

My 08 smells every once and a while, I too have seen no coolant loss.

It'll be interesting to see of your dealer finds anything.

Update for me. So I replaced my radiator cap with a TRD 18.5 psi one same as stock. Rinsed my engine with just plain water after installing my headers and now no more smell. Been this way for a few weeks now:)

Mine also had this issue, thought I had found the smell source but no. To fix this, you need to remove the molding flash from the plastic recovery tank seam, then install a worthy hose clamp.

My 2012 had that smell. Then it started poring coolant into my passenger side cab. It was the heater core.

I too have this smell. My 2012 has 10k miles on it and is going in for the 10k service on Thursday. This is on the top of my list to get checked out. Not too happy about it at this point. Want to get the complaint on record for any future problems that may arise.

I will keep this thread posted on what they find.

Well took the Tacoma to the dealer today and guess what the smell couldnt get replicated. UGH!!! So I drove a while and still no smell. It was cooler today here in Va this am. So this afternoon when I turned on the AC it seems the coolant smell returned.

Does this make sense? Why would I smell the coolant only when the AC is being run? And to clarify, this is coolant smell outside of the truck by the grill, I cannot smell it inside of the car.
