I would agree. The catch with towing a pop-up is that it limits where you can go though (I would think). The picture I posted was taken in Guadalupe Canyon. Because the camp is located 20+ miles off of paved roads, not sure if someone could get a camper that's towed to the campsite.

I wanted to get a long bed but was set on having manual trans.Long bed does not come with the 6 speed(at least up here in Canada). Very happy that it fits nicely in the garage and is easier to find parking.

    Holy thread revival!

I have slept in my short bed a few times. Had to keep the tailgate down, but it was plenty of space.

We have plenty of room for camping gear for Baja beach camping trips! Some recent trips... even with four people...

I have a dbl cab long bed and love it. I didn't really want a LB at first, but now that I have one, I will always have one. It really depends on what you will be using it for. We camp alot with the truck, but we sleep in tents on the ground.

I went with Double cab short bed 4x4 with off road package. The long bed would give me serious clearance issues where I wheel.

That being said, I have logged 12 nights on 5 different trips. I sleep in the double cab. I leave my back seats down year round, so all I have to do is push the passenger seat forward and fill in the void behind the passenger seat. Sleep diagonally. I use a thermarest mattress and have no probs. Last year I did 5 nights in Death Valley this way. It was awesome when there were 50 mph winds and the whole truck would shake and I am inside fully protected! :)

Why do you guys want to sleep in the bed? Looks like most truck tents are usually more expensive than good quality regular tents. Is it becasue of snakes and such when camping in desert? I always wondered. Some of them do look cool though, especially the roof rack ones most FJ guys have.

Pop a Lock tail gate lock, Dee Zee Heavy Duty bed mat, Viper alarm system, Blacked out headlights, Blacked out tailights.
Short bed is pretty short to sleep in. I'd camp on the ground. If you must, sleep with the tail gate down.

I thought about bed tents and sleeping in the bed but decided a tent was cheaper, easier and allows me to get the truck I want (a short bed).

The bed tents are not too easy to disassemble so moving the vehicle or taking it to the store is not practical. And if you are sleeping in the bed, you still need to do something with your stuff (cooler, camping gear, food, etc).

I'll still sleep in my truck bed if necessary but I will prefer a tent in MOST cases.

I've gotten pretty trashed and passed out in the bed of my truck in strange fields a couple of times. Pretty comfy but I was pretty obliterated so that may have made the comfort that much better...Can't remember if I had the tailgate down or not...probably did...wheel well makes a decent pillow.

The short bed is 5 foot, the tail gate down makes the bed long enough for anyone not on a basketball team. Only slept in the bed once, normally pop up the tent. The bed tent looks cool, but if you want to take a day trip from your camp, four wheeling, you would need to take it off the truck.

if its raining i'll set up a tent witha fly. but if its gonna be nice i just throw a bag in the bed and pass out. its way easier than setting up a tent. its warmer, no bugs (camping in SC during the warm months can be miserable with all the creepy crawlies interrupting your sleep). you dont have to pack a tent back up and its a guaranteed flat surface with no roots or rocks to sleep on. long story short, its way easier for us lazy guys

At that time its fairly easy to take the poles out and put your stuff on top of the collapsed tent. I plan on going out camping in the next few weeks, and I have a Sportz Original tent and a Truck Bedz air matress.

I got too much shit to carry to be able to sleep in the bed. It's much easier to pitch a tent in my position.
