I have 600 miles on my 2012 Dbl cab 4 cyl. With the 4 speed transmission do you drive around town in 3rd and wait until you get on the highway to place it in 4th(D)?

During break-in, maybe not a bad idea, it'll keep it from lugging so much.

Normally you can leave it in D if you want like any other vehicle.

Leave it in "D" unless you're in hilly terrain and the trans is constantly "hunting" between 3rd and 4th.

Keep in mind that you also have a lockup TC which will sometimes feel like a 5th gear.
