    Hmm. I've always waited for the high pitched wistle to stop before moving. From a cold start the rpms drop as soon as it stops. Generally 15-20 seconds before the rpms drop.

    I had an 06 2dw that had this and never had a problem with it. Had it from new to fall of 11.

    I only have 36,000 miles on my '06, so I can't say whether or not mileage has an affect on this. Though you'd think that age has more of an effect than mileage. The 2TR pumps' intake is on the motor housing itself, which is located in the engine bay. Heat from the engine probably drives off moisture during the night for most people so there hasn't been any issues.
