    Aloha All...
Couldn't find a sticky on here on how to replace the rear exterior door handles for the double cabs, so I gave it a shot and wrote it up.

I want to thank 57HotRodVW on Toyota Nation for his great write up on the rear which saved me a lot of heart ache, only after wasting an hour trying to do it myself and re re researching and finding his write up.

For the front see Tacoma World's Ron (Edrin55) and his write up, Remove/Replace door handles on Reg. & Access cabs, it's great and will get you thru the front doors which will help with the rear.

    2nd Generation Double Cab Tacoma (2005 - 2010)

    Tools needed:
    1 #30 Torx bit
    1 Ratchet with extension
1 small Flathead screw driver (for prying)
1 reg Phillips head screw driver

    Parts needed:
2 door handles (part# 69211-AE020-xx) The last two digits is your vehicle color code.
    2 lock covers (part# 69217-AE020-xx)

    69211- BARCELONA RED 3R3
    69211- BLACK SAND 209
    69211- MAGNETIC GRAY 1G3
    69211- PYRITE MICA 4T3
    69211- SILVER STREAK 1E7
    69211- SPEEDWAY BLUE 8P1
    69211- SUPER WHITE 040
    69211- TIMBERLAND 6T8

Start by using a phillips and unscrewing this screw

Using a phillips unscrew this screw
    [IMG]
Then remove this plastic holder by pressing in the middle indent with the phillips then use finger nails to pry out
    [IMG]
Pry this panel off from the edge of the door pulling straight out away from the door (Important take the 3 white clips that remain in the door and put them back on the plastic trim for when you reinstall, if not they will be pushed in the door and you will have to fish them out of the bottom of the door panel)
Now starting at the bottom sides of the doors where you feel you can get your fingers in the crease between the door panel and the frame pull straight out, you will hear a pop.
Work your way around the door bottom up the sides(There are none on the top edge where the window is) now lift the panel straight up toward the window, be careful it will still be attached by some wires to the power window button, you can either unplug the wire like i did and remove the whole panel or let it hang gently.
as long as you have access to this space
    [IMG]
Now take the torx and remove these bolt completely
    [IMG]
    Then reach inside here
    [IMG]
and move the latching mechanism down like this

Now you can see the torx you need to loosen
    [IMG]
Now put your torx bit in the extender and loosen, it wont fall out as it has a retainer clip.
Now Remove the little lock cover piece by slightly prying then getting your nails under it and wiggling straight out, just like the front doors. Then remove the handle by pulling back and opening.
Replace the color matched handle by putting the front end in first then the rear. Then put the lock cover on and secure it with the Torx and the extender, then put the latching mechanism back and secure it. Follow all the steps in reverse to reinstall the door panel.
Done, one step closer to a Color Coded, Scooped TRD OffRoad!!!

    Good luck:cheers:

I don't use my remote to get into my locked truck. In fact, I don't know where it is at. I hate the fact that the passenger side of the truck does not have a key hole like the older cars did.

Is there any way I could use a driver's side handle with key hole and replace the passenger one with it?

Yes, that will involve getting the tumbler to work with your key.

Are there two different covers for the front doors? One must have a hole in it for the key hole right?

Yes I know this, but the parts diagram doesn't say anything about passenger or drivers side.
