Need a new ShortBox in Florida!!

Hey guys, I've got a problem. I've been needing new tires for a while now, and yesterday morning on the way to work I found out how serious my needs were. I hydroplaned on the highway, spun around and knocked into the concrete wall...

So needless to say I'm having new tires put on tomorrow, but now I've got a bigger problem. I got "lucky" and the Taco doesn't have any structural damage, but I need a new bed. As you can see, it's the DC SB, in Indigo Ink. Obviously a color match would be nice, but I'll take what I can get.

Anyone know of a place or person I'd be able to get a used shortbed from? Preferably in or near Florida.

Glad no yellow lab was back there! Good tires are a must have, before anything else.

 

The "bed" consists of several pieces. The actual plastic tub is probably OK. Judging from the photos, you need a LH bed side, LH tail light, tailgate and bumper.

Thanks a lot guys. I agree, good thing there was no Lab back there. I went to a body shop this morning and he confirmed that I'll need a new bed, and he quoted me the same cost as the junkyards I called: $3000

I might be stuck going with insurance, unless I decide to just weld a steel tub with a buddy and say f**k it

 

I'll never understand why people pay for accidents out of pocket, unless the cost is about the same as the deductible. Why wouldn't you let the insurance pay for it anyway? That is why you pay for insurance!

I cant speak for everyone, but I pay for insurance because I dont want to go to jail for driving without insurance. I dont make claims on insurance (or purchase higher insurance coverage than legally required) because they raise the rates and you end up paying for it anyway.

So you would rather pay for it twice:

Once with premiums and then again out of your pocket.

 

I worked in NYC for 15 years for several months out of the year. There, no one makes claims on their ins if they can help it because the increases are ridiculous. If you make more then a couple, you're seriously screwed.

In reality, the small claims hurt you more than if you just paid it once out of pocket. In the long run, the less claims you have the better and most people have insurance so if they ever are in a serious accident, they are covered for that coverage either for themselves, or if they hurt someone. In those cases if you don't have ins or enough ins you can lose everything.

 

If you are having that many accidents then you aren't doing it right. I have been driving on public streets since 1970. I have had one accident about ten years ago ( not my fault, the other guy ran a stop light ). The other guys insurance paid for everything and I didn't claim anything on my insurance. My car did get hit once ( didn't know who ) when my car was parked in front of my apartment. Claimed and paid on my insurance with zero increase... Maybe you need a new insurance company.

 

Just make sure that your bed didnt contact the cab..thats some hidden stuff you need to watch for

 

Some guys have all the luck! Glad you are ok. But what a great time to get a tray back or custom flat bed.

 

I was the personnel manager for a good sized corp (over 3k people). We had a fleet of vehicles and had to do a lot of rentals including UHaul and equipment rentals. I had to deal with a lot of drivers that accumulated accidents over many number of years and just because you don't get in accidents doesn't mean others do not. The point is that making claims on your ins DOES increase your ins premiums and for many people it's worth it to pay cash. And this doesn't just apply to me, many cabbies, big rig drivers and other drivers by profession accept cash and pay cash at the scene of small accidents for this exact same reason. So, in seeing this happen, I understand why the guy in this post is doing the same thing. Not sure why you don't seem to get it.
