As I said, "something to consider". Really, the reason I posted all that above was not only because it might help others, but it saved me the trouble of writing it all down on a notepad (and probably easier to refer back to by searching here!).

And, I can imagine situations where somebody didn't have their generator, doesn't want to carry gas cans, wants to power a gypsy band while driving, etc . . . . . .

Also, a 4kw inverter generator (which is quieter, more efficient than a standard 60hz/115VAC and still produces Pure Sine Wave) can cost upwards of $2000.

The dealership has confirmed that the 2010-2014 Inverters have a design flaw, which prevents anything over 60 watts to be used when in 100w mode. After 9 days in the shop and months gone by, they do not have a solution for the problem.

I designed a mod to keep the inverter running at 400w. The mod is simple for an A/T, but a little complex for a M/T like my Taco. I built my mod using plugs and connectors so that it could be easily removed without leaving any traces of the mod. The bad news for the M/T mod is that it requires some external electronic parts and the outlet power switch will remain on until the ignition switch is turned off (the outlet switch cannot be used to turn the outlet off). I may continue to use this mod even if they fix the manufacturing defect.

Toyota has escalated this problem to Toyota in Japan. In case anyone is interested, here is the circuit for 400w mode while driving. Note: This circuit is only needed for Manual Transmissions. Simpler mods were available on other websites, but people reported that the inverter was always on and that the mod did not work on newer model Tacomas.

Without any mods, the inverter will drop to 100w (orange light) when you are moving, step on the clutch (M/T) or engage the transmission (A/T). In addition, there are known problems on the 2011 and newer trucks that prevent the 100w mode from working with loads of 60w or more.

TC Mid Travel +2, TC SUA, king shocks, Swamp Donkey/Rigid lighting, Mechman alt, SOS/Boztek armor, ATH Fab tiedown, full active JL/Audiofrog sound system, NOICO sound deadening EVERYWHERE. Up next: roof/bed rack + dry storage, skids, bumpers, fiberglass, power wire upgrade + frame grounds, LTO battery swap, air compressor, on board pressurized water, powered cooler, suspension seats, frame reinforcement, solid motor/trans mounts.
So I’m pretty deep in an electrical rabbit hole. I have a mechmman 240a alt and a bunch of 1/0 + 2/0 tinned ofc, blue sea fuse panels, battery switches, agm + lithium battery bank etc. just prepping for a high power stereo, lights, winch and all so I figured I’d wire the bed switch to higher power. I just need a pure sine wave inverter and I should be able to supply ~30a @120v or ~3600w. Also need to figure out where I’m gonna fit 500lbs of wiring, amps, inverter, speakers, fridge, etc... In a double cab.

Has anyone used the inverter to charge an e bike battery?
