The "hopping" sounds to me like the clutch glazed. A lot of the time if a clutch glazes over you can correct it with a hard slip or two. Not enough to overheat the flywheel, but enough to expose a bit of new surface.

My last Honda's stock clutch was terrible for that. The more conservatively the car was driven, the more it would shudder on takeoff. I finally got to the point that I'd run some twisties to wear it a bit and the problem would go away for a couple months.

My 6spd clutch does it too, but far less frequently.

If this is the OP's situation, it usually gets much worse on humid mornings or in the rain, and when the clutch is still cool.

Back in the old old days the owners manual would say put the front bumper against a tree and smoke the clutch.... don't do that though.

had this same issue right after I replaced my clutch around this same time last year, replaced the TO bearing and it went away for a few weeks. Chirp came back and now its worst then ever, really considering that URD sleeve kit to get rid of this annoying chirp/squeek

With a manual, shifting is left up to the driver, just how I like it. No wonder you were disappointed.:D

The redesign and matching TSB happened around march 2011 IIRC, between the time I ordered my URD kit and when I received it. Then I priced the parts from the dealer, and was happy to continue installing the URD kit. IIRC, new production from then on also had the update, but don't quote me on that.

I must have a high tolerance for smoothness. I spent a lot of miles in a Jeep YJ when I was very young and the 1-2 shift throw on that beast had to be about a foot. 123 hp, 15 mpg, no AC, one speaker worked... It finally lost enough compression to not go highway speed at about 190,000 miles.

I was hoping the TSB was before Mar 2011... Toyota shows my new TOB going in dec 2010. They labeled it "installed SOP bearing" after throwout bearing diagnosis and R&R description... no idea what that means.

The way you described the way your Honda drove is exactly how my truck feels.

I ordered to URD TO bearing kit today and I intend on leaving it up to the mechanic to decide if anything else needs to be replaced. Ill keep everyone posted.

it's still not a shitty transmission. And I had an automatic Tacoma. Couldn't stand the gear hunting. The bump on take off or stopping. The cruise control panic rev to maintain speed on a hill. Also how boring are automatics? So different strokes for different folks. I will fix it if it breaks. It's a machine. They break and none of them are perfect.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
This whole thread and all the others make me thankful I went with the 2.7/5 speed setup. I've got horsepower when I need it! (Every other vehicle I own has a V8) So having a 4 banger does not bother me at all, they do have decent power too and are fun to drive.

You can't get a dbl cab with the 2.7 so I buy the v6's. Don't look into that much man. The 6 speed is fine.

I thought you could get a double cab with the 2.7 starting in 2011? Not sure if its auto or manual though.

just checked. I can configure a 2012 dc prerunner with 2.7 auto. can't do manual with the dc or as a 4wd. Might be different in other regions.

This. And the correct way to fix this is a new clutch and if there is enough material on the flywheel get it refaced. If not replace the flywheel, clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing.

    warranted... your golden

Just another experience - I'm just over 100K on a stock clutch and did not get "the squeak" until about 10K ago.
I'll eventually go the URD Route and upgrade the clutch at the same time.

Automatics are for people that can't drive a stick. The manual does not shift it's self you do if it does not shift smoothly kinda points to the one driving it.

Definitely sounds like a throughout bearing chirp. My throwout bearing replacement was covered by the 5yr 60K mile powertrain warranty.

Similar thing happened to me. The clutch literally slipped on the friction rivets and needed to be replaced. Warranty took care of it. The tech wanted to replace all but they wouldn't let him. I eventually had the same squeak. Took it back and it needed a new throw out bearing and shift fork. Needless to say, the tech threw that in his boss' face!

I had the same problems with my 2005 6 spd. Two transmissions and then at the end had TB wear. Basically your input sleeve develops ridges and the OME bearing is narrow and wobbles and then fails. You can drive on a bad throw out bearing for a while but the noise is bothersome. Pull the inspection plate on the divers side and turn your truck on in N. You will see it dancing. I used the Tranquil after talking to the owner of the shop that makes them. http://pdmusa1.com/ I bought the part and toyota installed it for free and it voided the warranty of the clutch only. Well worth it. Their are TSB on this issue.
    Good Luck.

Looks like the URD TOB fix, just priced $105 higher. Did you find their manufacturer perhaps?
