OK, I purchased my 2009 CPO Tacoma TRD off-road double cab last friday. The finance guy tried to sell me on undercoating and I passed.

I was looking under the truck this weekend and it has a lot of surface rust. I live in Iowa and we have crappy winters with brine etc. I do worry it will rust out and bolts etc will seize etc.

Has anyone undercoated their car? Is it worth it? What did it run you?

I know this place called Zeibart does it locally. Any suggestions or advice on this?

    Thanks!

IMO -- anything sold as an add-on at time of purchase is part of what the dealership would clasify as a profit center for the dealership.

Having said that if you do go ahaid with it be sure they do a thourogh job. Ive seen jobs that completly cover needed areas and others that are just haphazarly sprayed on.

I have had the ziebart rust proof on two previous cars and on my current truck. I have had no issues with the rust proof itself.

I used to drive my previous truck on the beach and never had any signs of rust damage to it.

The only problem I have with ziebart (the last one I've been to) is that they scratched the hell out my truck and they got the rust proofing inside the truck and body panels higher up.

    I hope this helps...

Hmm, that is good to know. What I am worried about as well. I don't want it on my paint etc.

I would be livid if they scratched my truck up, its used but still - WTF!

On a brand new truck I might apply use a corrosion guard/fluid film type product. But its a battle I won't win unless I have a dry/warm place to park at night and never take it offroad, never take it out on a winter day. In that case I would just buy a car, I bought it to use it!
