Look at your needs with an honest and skeptical eye, and then get the right tool for the job. Maybe it's a modded Tacoma. Maybe it's something else.

Family members and friends deserver your loyalty. Carmakers, not so much.

Ah. Sounds like you've already made your decision then, and you're just looking for a little push. Life is short man. Drive what you want to drive.

FJ's are cool.... and very capable... hate the blind spot and they lack convertability

    Seriously.

    JD Power initial quality surveys.
    http://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motoramic/key-car-quality-study-ranks-software-bugs-most-170243393.html

Lexus and (shudder) Jag were #1 and #2 with 73 and 75 problems reported per 100 vehicles.

Bottom of the list was Fiat and Smart at 151 problems per 100 vehicles.
Mini followed at 139 problems per 100 vehicles.
    Chrysler, 116
    Jeep, 110
    Kia, Lincoln, Hyundai, 107
    Chevrolet, 100
    Toyota, 88

New Jeep, there's a probability that you will have 1.1 quality issues existing on the vehicle while it's still sitting on the lot.
    Toyota, 0.88 issues.

How much is a new Rubi??

Shit.... buy yourself an older TJ (no loan) and build a much better one for much less!!!!! And not be afraid to get it dirty or beat on it.

I had a YJ 4.0L manual with Dana 44's, 4.56 gears, ARB lockers, roll cage, tons of skid plating, custom stuff done to it.... The only thing I didn't have was an Atlas transfer case (drool...) ...

Feels much better when you build it yourself, know exactly what it has, how to work on it....etc.

I never had a lick of problems with my 'built' Jeep - but, then again....it only had 80,000 miles on it and It didn't get driven much. On the other hand, , my mother-in-law had a Grand Cherokee with 87,000 miles (12 years old) that cost her and arm and a leg to keep it running!!!!

I'd never buy a jeep as a daily driver.....

I'm not sure what the newer Rubi's have.... but I remember the older Rubi's had wimpy Dana 30 knuckles and Dana 30 bearings/ujoints. No Thanks!

The best thing about the rubi for you might be the lockers, 4:1 is for crawling, do you do alot of that? then it would be nice to have it. The short wheel base can also hinder you in some situations and I am always scared to see a jeep rock crawling even with full width axles because they are top heavy. Hope your happy with your decision.

Log on to Jk forum ...best forum for jk wranglers. Search, lemons and you will find a mine field. Families refusing to drive them because of D.W. death wobble, lifted or no. Steering boxes made in China failing, ball joints, clock springs, a.t. trans fires, weak headlights, cheap build quality.... spare tire tail gate, very weak. Hard and soft tops water leaks, on and on. Seems, chrysler will not address any of these known defects. Newest problem, the new pentastar engines need head replacements, with no idea, of problem solved. The rants on the jks are numerous and epic.

I had a 2000 TJ it only had a radiator that failed under warranty. $200-300? And I beat the hell out of it.

My 2006 2.7 2wd taco had the a/c system go out under warranty. $2000-3000?

I have a taco as a daily driver. It is much better for that. But for a 2nd car for off road I would take a jeep in a heart beat.
