would it be possible for anyone to please explain why installing a higher pressure radiator cap over the stock, such as the TRD radiator cap P/N: PTR04-00000-03 that id like to purchase soon, helps with the engine cooling system performance and just how it actually operates in general?? and if installing it will have any adverse effects on any of the engines parts or components?? thank you so much, this has been a puzzling question ive been asking myself for quite some time now and i just can't seem to fully grasp the science, knowledge and thinking behind it and put two and two together, any info is appreciated, thank you :)

It's got high performance muffler bearings that creates a smooth operating left handed smoke shifter. Lol

    Running tubes, Toolbox
It reduces friction heat on your tires, gives you the fuel economy of a Volkswagon diesel, and lowers your insurance.

hey common, im honestly being serious here.. im not joking around.. im sure the effect isnt profound but id just like to know for knowledge sake :/ and no, its not just for looks, it raises the boiling point of the coolant , and id like to know exactly what that means and what are the positives and negatives are about that... no need for the sarcasm :(

not sure about the TRD cap but
there ARE caps that hold higher pressure before letting out fluid to the over flow tank... I've used them in my 240s before... along with better electric fans, and lower temp thermostats. my engine ran cooler, safer, etc...

    forgot...

with that being said, I've ALSO bought caps that are just billet with a sweet sticker, just like oil caps of the same "performance" value... of ZERO...

Ahhh, the radiator cap. The most overlooked cooling system component. Pretty neat little things.

    - Rcaps have a PSI rating usually between 13 - 16 PSI. For each Lb of pressure, it will raise the boiling point of the coolant by 3 degrees. A 13 PSI cap will help raise the boiling point of the coolant by almost 40 degrees. It helps improve performance.

    - 2 valves on a Rcap as well. 1 for when the engine is hot, one for when it's cold. One valve will open and allow excess coolant/pressure to bleed off (like into the overflow tank). The other valve is a vacuum valve. When/as the engine cools, a small vacuum is created in the cooling system sucking coolant out of the tank and back into the system.

So, the TRD cap, a higher pressure cap, will help increase the boiling point of your coolant just a little bit more. Idea being it will help improve C.S. performance.

Other than that, it's a nice shiny object.

(Coolant freezing points...The point of the ethelyne glycol (or whatever it's made of) in coolant is to really help the water it's cut with. The coolant in this regard, lowers the freezing point of the water so it dosen't freeze in your shit during a cold night. A typical mix is 50/50. Half coolant concentrate, half water. This gives about a -32 degree rating, VERY TYPICAL. If you get -32 in NJ, you got other problems. People in Alaska may run a 60/40 portion. 60% coolant to 40% water. The freeze protection will go even lower)

that was some pretty good info, and thanks, but my other question now is, after the one person said "the cap puts extra stress on the cooling system", would toyota and TRD actually design a part that would actually jeopardize the integrity of the vehicles cooling system??.. and my thinking there is probably not because its an actual toyota part... but what is your opinion on that now?? cause im sure there had to be a fair amount of r&d put into the cap.. idk.. thats why im here asking :/

Jst get a new cap at ADAP for 15 bucks with a higher lbs. rating if you want. I am not sure why you want to go higher, usually you go lower when the radiator gets real old and weak.
