I just installed part 84652-04141 in my '09 Taco and it works perfectly. The worst part of the job was wrestling off the plastic cowling. The tab on the left popped loose per the picture but the one on the right would not budge. I had to end up prying under the case at the top behind the wheel and work my way down and it finally came loose. Changing the switch was the easiest part.

Thanks to Roland and all for the help.

Any time. So.... When's it going to rain?

Hopefully, not today here since it is 15°F. That also made the installation more fun. Cold garage, poor lighting and fat fingers.

Just got through with the upgrade. Freakin sweet! Less than 15 min install start to finish. All I need now is to figure out how to adjust the mirrors without rolling down the window....

Thanks a ton for your write up, Roland. I just installed it this weekend and am so glad I have it now. If an idiot like me can do it in 15 minutes, anyone can.

Well...forgets pix, as my camera batteries are cold at the moment. Just installed the 84652-04141 switch on my '09 base. Everthing works just fine and nothing is "backwards" at all. As an added bonus, my wipers now cycle when I use the washer fluid too.

    This mod FTW!! :headbang:

Congrats on the installation. As smart as the Toyota people are I can't imagine why they didn't just install this on all Tacos. That and no tailgate lock.

Yeah...it sux. But I guess you have to look at it from the manufacturer's perspective. If leaving out the switch and lock saves a few bucks per vehicle, that can make a huge difference over the course of thousands of vehilces produced/sold. Besides, they want to differentiate, as much as possible, the level of equipment on each trim level....ideally enticing you step up a trim level when possible.

I installed the wiper switch on a 2009. It works great though it hasn't rained since I installed it. Thanks for everyone's help.:)

I don't know why they didn't install it either. But I got a basic '09 Access and it didn't have every option on it. I added the VS wipers, cruise and DRL. But it worked out for me. I have everything I wanted without having to get one of the packages that included a bunch of crap I didn't want.

The main reason is to keep the cost down and the price in line with earlier years.

I just bought a 2009 Tacoma Access cab and was really happy until I realized it didn't have intermittent wipers! I even bought the upgraded package and still no intermittent wipers. I live in Florida and deal with spitting rain all the time so I was really disappointed when I finally figured out that Toyota makes the intermittent wiper part of their most expensive upgrade package...so more people will buy it I guess. I had the same experience with the Toyota dealer as everyone else (it can't be done) so started looking at what I could do. At first I found an add on switch on JC Whitney but when I got it, it was big and clunky and seemed complicated to wire. Then I found this forum and you guys saved the day especially Roland! You are right, the part number is 84652-04141 for the 2008 model and not a 2009. I would have never in a hundred years figured that out. I got it on the link supplied in other posts, it arrived, I got my screw drivers and with the great photos supplied on this post by Roland and his great instructions, I now have perfectly working intermittent wipers for a little over a hundred bucks! Not being very good with tools, it took me a few minutes longer to install, so I had the beer afterwards! I can't thank all of you enough! What a great forum you have. It is the most useful of anything I have found on the internet! Thanks again for all you do!!:)

Just did the intermittent wiper and rear view camera mods in my '09 access cab, both are operating perfectly. thanks for all the great info and pics. I wouldn't have even thought of doing these if it weren't for this forum. thanks a million!!! Hope it rains like hell tomorrow. Next is the suspension TSB, have the '09s been officially added to the list?:):):)

Ok, I guess y'all already know the next question that is coming. Will this part number work on the 2010? I got the base access cab with the convenience package. WTH? I guess Toyota doesn't think intermittent wipers are a convenience?
