I have a '99 tacoma and i have lost the one and only key that i have for it. now its sitting in my driveway with no way to start it. i swear that this was the one and only time that key has even left the ignition! im really struggling to figure out what to do. here is my questions, does the 99 tacoma have a programmed key? does anyone have any good ideas of how to get a key? the dealer will send me a key but they thought i might have to tow it there (2.5 hours to get it there) because they thought the key might be programmed but for some reason they didnt know. anyway, i appreciate any advice. thanks.

When you called did you provide the dealer your VIN Number? When I lost the key to my 2001 Kia I went to the dealer with my title and they were able to cut me 2x keys on the spot with just the VIN. Cost was only $10/key as they didn't need to be programmed, though programmed keys can be pricey.

Call dealer back, provide your VIN and have them check whether they need to program; save time and a possibly needless tow. Good luck!

I had a 2003 Tacoma and had the dealership cut me three keys just with vin number so you should be fine with yours too.

i know that it was already answered that it is not a transponder key, but u can tell if your key was all metal, then there was no transponder, and if you had one of the black oem keys (I think) if there is no small circle on the metal part, then it is also not a transponder key
