Yeah, I love my manual transmission...but I'm not really sure I can agree with that.

True, but not enough that should be factor to keep someone from getting a manual transmission...not in my opinion anyway.

Precisely the reason I got an automatic when I bought my '05...but I (thankfully) don't do as much city driving and was really itching to get back into a manual so I jumped on it.

My only beef with the auto is I hate it when you are going at like 3000 rpm and you just need a little bit more and press on the skinny and bam you are now at 5000 rpm. That pisses me off.

Other than that I love the auto.

Manual are nice for working on your self. I've changed a few gears before not a big deal. Autos wouldn't think about it.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
It seems like the manual is what you want and will suit your needs perfectly! I love my 5 speed in my 4 banger. The thing with these manuals over others I have driven, you have to "train" yourself, if you will, to drive one smoothly. 1st gear is low, but this is a truck, I've rarely driven a truck that did not have a low first gear. Most of the older Chevys had the L, 1, 2, 3 shift pattern. Only truck I've drove with a tall first gear was a 80s F150 with a 3 speed on the column. Good luck with the new truck OP, hope to see pics soon!

I just got a manual OR double cab and I like it more and more every day. Trucks and sport cars should be manuals, IMO. Plus, you can save the extra $900 and put it towards a lift, or some other mod.

    Have fun with it!

1st gear short... pfft. It redlines at about 37 mph in the Taco. My Honda Fit redlined 1st at 28 mph, 2nd at 49 mph, 3rd at 68 .... now THAT was short. Into 4th WOT just to get on the freeway!

I have a '12 DCSB 6MT and I really enjoy driving it...I think the gearing is great, low enough in first to make city driving and traffic a breeze (no clutchwork if you time it right) and good cruising gears above it...I think the clutch is easy to modulate and smooth and the shifting is very smooth up to 95% speed...

That said my complaints are that I wish 6th gear was a little taller for my 30 mile highway commute and this transmission absolutely will not tolerate sports car 1-2 shifts, the synchros are too slow and you will grind 2nd gear...Perfectly smooth at 95% but no good at 100%.

Like Dunham I drive in Baltimore traffic all the time so I can agree that I think this manual is fine in those situations...

I'm in the same boat... I plan on factory ordering a Black 2013 TRD DC 6 Speed.
I was looking for threads about it before I make my final decision. I'm thinking manual as well...
    *Push start
*Longevity (Most Manuals require less maintenance and last longer in my experience)
    *Funner to drive (Sportier)
*Most vehicles get better MPG (Not this one?)
And I just like the fact that I am in control of the truck.

I love my manual. Still trying to get used to the M shift pattern. And what do the 1, 3, and 5 on the shift knob mean?

I have driven manuals since i was 15... Got my 2006 6 speed and love it. It is different than the other yotas i have owned but not bad. Just different.

87k on the clock and still doing fine!

I habe driven my friends' automatic tacos and personally do not like how it shifts. But then again, i never like how a vehicle shifts unless im the one controlling it :D

If you like driving a manual, then get one!

I fretted over this for weeks, then decided, automatic

    a) mileage....I will be doing a ton of highway, 6th gear is a tad low....

    b) I took an arrow to the knee*, and when I was down with that, no way
could I have driven a standard. taught me something about automatics.

*got lyme, knee blew up, took 9 months to cure, 6 more for the knee to calm down
...for a 2 month period if I had a standard I would have needed rides everywhere
as it was my knee basically killed me for 15 months straight
