Changed oil level at 5000 miles and had 8.5 litres of oil taken out. Refilled 5.2 L oil to top of mark drove 500 miles and oil went up .8L. Called Toyota 2 different places and nobody heard of it before, they said its imposible all systems are seperate. All my fluids are okay the only thing I suspet is gas is getting into the oil.

That's a new one. I haven't any problems checking the oil using the dipstick.

Did you do the first oil change yourself? You had 9 quarts of "oil" taken out of your truck

An extra 3 and a half quarts of ANYTHING in your oil would be would be easy to identify. If it were coolant, your oil would look like a chocolate milkshake. If it were gasoline, the smell would just about knock you over it would be so strong, plus it would be extremly thin and pour like water. Even the extra ~quart that 'appeared' over 500 miles would have the same characteristics.

If it's not either of these, I can't think of any other fluid it could be.

Pardon my question, but are you sure you didn't empty the trans fluid and fill the crankcase with extra oil, then drain 9 quarts out? I only ask because the drain plugs look similar and are near each other. I've heard of it happening before.

My 2010 took only 5.5 quarts after draining the oil pan. The 9 quarts you drained worries me more than anything.

Same here. I would have thought it was impossible to confuse the two, unless you are a "special needs child ". In that case you should take it to a normal person to get the oil changed.

Some people are just krazie that way.

I've seen and engine's oil level rise a bit from just doing short drives. The oil starts to suck up water that condenses in the engine after it cools off and never gets hot enough to evaporate it all out again. It's easy to tell when this is the case when you take a drive down the highway for an hour and it looks like you lost a half quart on an engine that doesn't burn oil, when in reality the built up water just got heated out.

Never have I seen it gain 3 quarts though. That's either coolant or the previous serviceman reading the V8 Tundra spec and way overfilling it. That amount of coolant would just be obvious though. Or the tranny possibility, that would suck if you've driven that many miles on an empty tranny. Again it would act obviously troubled.

    ^^Holy shit that's hilarious!!!

I also have to ask this obvious question...did you read the dipstick each time on level ground? Also, when you filled the oil to the top mark, did you run the engine for 30 seconds to cycle the oil, then wait for it to drip back down into the pan, or did you just pour it and check the level?

All of these factors can give you mixed readings on the dipstick.

I don't think motor oil expands nearly enough to show a visible rise in oil level. Let alone .8 liters. Water and other fluids, yes...

Gasoline, by the time it reaches the cylinder, is already in vapor form. Blow-by at the piston rings exist to a certain extent on all engines, old and new, hence the need for a crankcase ventilation system. Blow-by should not cause the oil level to go up permanently.

All fluids are at their correct level had the transmission check also. Don't only service my truck but also service my farm equipment from 4wd tractors to combines etc. More filters and oil changes than you could imagine.
