Let me start off by wishing everyone here a happy new year and hope that everyone has a safe 2009. Anyway, off to the bad news. My taco was broken into on Jan 1st, yeah wonderful way to start off the new year. They broke the drivers side window, reached in, unlocked the door then used the outside handle to open the door. They took my garmin GPS and my digital camera that was in the center console. I have an 09 DC TRD sport. My question is do our trucks have a "standard" alarm? I know there is a factory VIP acessory alarm that sounds off when the car is shocked or a window is broken, but when we arm the car via keyless entry will the horn start to honk if someone broke the window reached in unlocked the door and opened it??? Reason being is when they broke into mine, the horn didnt go off. I was under the impression that we had this "standard" factory alarm on our fully loaded tacos. Thanks in advance

An alarm does not come "standard". I believe Toyota sells an alarm as an option. I had a Viper alarm put on mine. The tacoma comes standard with an "immobilizer". It simply prevents someone from starting your truck without the key that is matched to the truck.

according to 06 models it is $250 to put in a factory alarm system... but i dont know now. I really dont need one because in Auburn there really is no such thing as crime ;0 but like rhoppas said the "immobilizer" is probably the best thing hands down.

Check your sticker, if you still have it. S6 is the option for the Security system upgrade on the '09s. Without it, all you really have is remote keyless entry. It's a $320 option. My '08 FJ came without it, but I was able to locate a new one from a Toyota dealership on ebay, cheaper, and installed it myself.
