I recently dunked my taco in a good sized mud hole (depressing story...i was an idiot), the truck had water up to the bottom of the headlights and the tail was sticking out on land. It was stuck up to the frame in mud. I ended up having to replace the starter, serpentine belt, and a few idler pulleys. The only problem I still have is a whining noise coming from the engine. It happens while at any speed while I'm accelerating and also when I start the truck up. Any ideas?

I also took it to toyota to get it looked at. Thats when i had the pulleys fixed. I'm surprised they didn't say anything. Does it mean the alternator is about to go out?

You could thereotically take the alternator out and soak the windings inIsopropyll Alcohol, and I'm not referring to rubbing alcohol either. Iso is a great electronics cleaner, evaporates quickly as well. Unless you kinda have an idea of what you're doing, I wouldn't do it yourself. You don't want to ruin the bearings. My own father tried cleaning one here a little while back and it started smoking and eventually failed in two days. God only knows what he used... LoL

I have this same issue, if I replace the alternator will my truck perform any better or will it just take the noise away?

Must have been one of those "supercharger installation" mudholes. :D

Did this mud hole install a super charger on your Taco? :D

Mechanic said it was the alternator. This was some seriously expensive offroading.
