Today I installed a Kahtec Smart Stop system on my Taco. I got the Blinking Smart Stop Plus 3 Delay Version. I've seen a few people get only the model that makes the third brake light flash, but this model makes all 3 brake lights flash, and has an 8 second delay before it flashes again.
The system makes the brake lights flash when I press the brake pedal, hopefully waking up the idiot behind me.
I don't know if anyone else is interested, but I wired the system into the brake light wires under that kick panel below the driver's side doorjam. The whole process took me 20 minutes, and I'm really happy with it.

I had one on my first gen. it would flash the center stop light 12 times, then go solid. I liked it.

I have to wait for my wife to get home. I tried getting my 6 year old to press and hold the brakes, then let off..... He was too busy honking the horn and screwing with my mirror controls to pay attention.
I'll put a video on tomorrow.

    Awesome systems.
I run a similar system on my motorcycle. It flashes 3 times then goes solid, but there's no delay lockout so I can release the brake and hit it again to continue the flashing if I see someone coming up on my ass.

If I'm going down the freeway, and I notice traffic starting to slow down ahead of me, I will tap my brakes about a dozen times to let the dickheads behind me know that it's time to put down your pud and drive.
I'm just looking out for #1.

What happens when you have headlights on? Do the taillights alternate between bright and slightly less bright?

Separate filament, so yes. The modulator does exactly the same thing as if you pump your brakes a few times.

Same idea on the LEDs... whatever the difference is between parking lights and brake lights.

Hellwig 1251's, Leer 122, Kahtec smart stop delay flashing 3rd brake light, de-chromed, de-badged, WeatherTech mats, WeatherTech side window deflectors,
After reading all the rear-end stories (probably too many texting-while-driving morons on the roads) of other TW members, I decided to install the Kahtec Smart Stop (Delay) Third Brake Light Module. Was only $25 plus shipping. Installation was pretty straightforward, the hardest part was prying off the light housing due to the limpet-like grip of the gasket.

I’m looking at installing that on my ‘15. It says it only works if you have separate brake light connections, what exactly do they mean? Any help would be much appreciated.

I think he overpaid. The 3 Delay is for tail lights not just a 3rd brake light.

I'm interested in this as well. One concern is the "legality" of it. Any more info?

Yes the 3 plus is for all 3 brake lights. I am just wondering what exactly is meant by separate connections. One bulb used for both brake and tail light or brake and tail lights in separate housings

Ive seen these on hondas type cars on the nj turnpike and parkway I like the concept. Are these street legal? They would definitely get the attention of the person behind you

There’s another thread on here where people have said some states are more hard asses than others. I’ve seen police vehicles with these driving around in Connecticut. But as far as your specific state I would look it up.

Vague but from the kahtec site:

I've been searching through NYS motor vehicle law and haven't come up with anything definitive. I think I'll take a ride to the Troopers barracks and try to get an answer there.....
