    They do.

Manufacturers are VERY present on the online forums, particularly the more popular forums like TN, TW, TS... They don't post, but they read, and read, and read, and report.

GM was particularly "nasty" about documenting mods and racing that users posted on Dieselplace and using that against them if they had a warranty claim.

Their presence is inferred, but very likely.

How else do you get factory SEMA show trucks with all the common "wants" like satoshi, BHLM, A/T tires, mudflap delete, V8...

    . . . ^ ^ ^ . . . I tend to agree ... unless the scoop is functional and sitting on top of a 4.7L V-8 ... :burnrubber:
I always liked the vehicles that were "sleepers" ... i.e. . 427ci Chevys & etc. with painted rims and plain pie pan hub caps ... :D

Wow...such bitterness and anger...who pizzed in your cheerios?

Why don't you slow your roll and educate yourself with some facts before posting the hateful stuff?

Fact is...I just bought a new 2012 Tacoma DC Sport 4x4...it has the 4-leaf rear from the factory...as does the 2012 SR5. And while my 2010 SR5 did come with a 3-leaf rear...Toyota was more than happy to upgrade my truck with a 4-leaf rear, all I had to do was ask.

Another fact...most Tacoma buyers DO NOT go muddin' or rock crawlin'...so it's actually amazing that Toyota even offers such outstanding trucks like the "Off Road".

My 3rd fact (for now)...Toyota, like any other manufacturer...builds toward a market. It seems they have heard the market and decided to use a 4-leaf rear in the SR5 and the Sport, while re-engineering the 3 leaf for the Off Road package. The re-engineered 3 leaf rear on the Off Road allows the travel the 4 leaf does not, travel most off roaders need & want.

And, if you are more hard core than what Toyota makes available in the market...there are plenty of after market vendors more than happy to assist you with your needs/wants.

    Good luck.

I've had my 2012 TRD Sport for less than 24 hours...and have had several compliments on the truck, all include "love the hood scoop".

I could take it or leave it...this time I took it.

I've had my 12 sport for 9 months. I'm impressed with its capabilities offroad, while still being loaded up and fully dressed out.

I'll be upgrading the suspension because I would like a bit more clearance and somewhat better load handling - For my own peace of mind. However, the stock suspension has taken me everywhere I've asked it to.

I used to race bikes and I recall listening to to guys argue over whether it was better to have the fingers over the handbrakes or tucked under. The fact is that it doesn't matter - the effect is swamped by the rest of the things going on.

TW sometimes reminds me a lot of that - arguing over minutae. It's entertaining as far as it goes - but in a few weeks when I'm living out of my truck, I can promise I won't be bitching about the stupid 4 leaf SOA stock setup.

I'll be wondering why I have to go back to the office....

    Drool :D

GM wasn't intending to build sleepers, it was simply the most economical (and affordable for customers) way to get enough production units on the street to meet minimums for stock class racing.
They knew that most would be upgraded to the limits of the stock and super stock classes, no need to add a $500 cosmetic package.

But for those who were bought by grandpa and parked in the barn with 500 miles on them....

I'm holding out for a cherry original ZL-1... but sadly, so many of the aluminum blocks were blown up (only 69 cars were built) that the NHRA wrote a variance that allowed the iron 427 to be used.

    An aluminum-block ZL-1 is a 7-digit sale.

    Since y'all are talkin' Chebbies...

I've had a dozen or so of them...including a handful of Corvettes...

but nowadays...I doubt I'll ever own another, because the real nice old ones are off the hook in price...and the new ones kinda bore me (yeah, I had a couple C6's...even they bore me now)

I'd love a 1966 Chevy fleet side short bed pickup...original blue w/ the white cab top...survivor...a little rust and patina is cool too.

I also wouldn't mind a cherry '68 or 69 Camaro...but the old Corvettes in sweet condition [my best NY accent] fugetaboutit [my best NY accent] :D

I have a 2011 Sport, and I love it. My offroading is extremely limited, and 95% of my mileage (53000 a year) is on the freeway. My truck is my office, and I need it to be comfortable, reliable, economical, and I want it to look cool too.
Why the Limited? Why more chrome? I hate chrome. Will there be fake walnut inlays, vinyl seats, and LIMITED badges all over the place?
I want a V6 with better gas mileage, but is tuned to haul ass if I need it to. The shitty 19 mpg that I'm getting is my only gripe with this truck. Honestly, I'm hoping for a hybrid.
    LESS CHROME! MORE MPG!

If Toyota produces an all electric Tacoma...that has the same features & power as my 3 day old 2012 TRD Sport 4x4...

and all I have to do is plug her in in the evenings (like my Makita or DeWalt tool batts)...

And I will trade ON THE SPOT.

Not because I'm some greenie weenie that thinks electric vehicles will save the planet...

because stopping at the fuel station is a PITA.
