looks good guys. i hauled some portioned logs this morning that i traded a case of heineken for. had to make two trips because of the shortbed. ...a rack would have been perfect to carry the last four that we couldnt strap in.

    Ooohhhhh!! Super jelly! I want!
No issues with weight capacity up there? I've been considering the RTT idea for a while now. I've got a shell, not sure if I'd want to mount it to the roof, or the camper shell...
Post pics of it all set up when you get some!

no issues with weight at all. Toyota rates the dynamic weight limit at 200lb - the rack and tent maybe push 175lb. Really makes no noise at all on the road.

I am not worried about the static load limit. It would never see more than 500lb total with 2 people sleeping. These trucks are built to hold their weight on the roof in a crash :)

Typically you can easily double (or more) the dynamic load. But if Toyota says 200lb - I am sure that was a conservative number and they are not advertising/endorsing the max limit.

Its a pretty beefy rack. TracVan. Loaded the kayaks on the roof and slept in the back. Worked great! Fishing several times a day.

Previous owner of the cap told me he loaded it with 8 or so 8x8x16 pressure treated posts. I would not put that on a OEM rack!

No pictures on this computer, but I've got Yakima racks on my ARE shell. I haven't done much kayaking lately so I took the kayak saddles off but I've carried various loads of kayaks and canoes on it; I've also got a bike rack for my mountain bike. I leave the bars on most of the time since I find I use them fairly frequently- hauling things like metal pipe and lumber, picking up items I'm offered or find, etc. Besides, it's easy to spot my truck in a sea of cars with the rack on top, especially if the "ears"* are on it. :)

*Ex-girlfriend used to say the kayak saddles looked like ears sticking up.

I use the OEM rack for kayak transport (mostly). This shot shows it with an added support made out of 2x4s sitting in the bed, but I've carried it with just the roof rack on short local trips.

Really nice racks guys:thumbsup:. I hope to have enough saved up in two months for a Baja rack. My lift put a limit on my roof rack options since my truck MUST sleep in the garage. Soon I'll go from super jelly to loading and unloading crap from my roof rack unnecessarily :)

I only use mine for kayak. I also have bike rack in the bed, and one for hitch for when I'm carrying multiple bikes.

Is that a custom rack from Bajarack? I know only of one other guy in AZ that has a custom flat top rack from them. Infinite versatility.

    It looks good!

I organized a group buy if anyone is interested in these.

    Thanks guys,

These are my designs and I did build them. They are cedar strip kayaks.

Do you sell them? I'm almost afraid to ask how much due to how nice they look.

I always thought the look of a roof rack, other than OEM, looked cool and tough. I ended up getting a Thule rack along with a Rhino rack flat mesh basket. After installing it I wasn't sure I could trust it with anything up there. I installed my RTT over the bed and lost bed space rather quick. A beach trip with out a spare didn't feel right so I strapped the spare up on top. Right now it's the spare and my ARB awning mounted. I really would like the RTT on top but not sure about it. But this is how it looks.
