I wanted a used coma, but the resale price on those trucks are crazy.. figured I pay a bit extra to get that new truck smell, and to have a fresh start. Lovin my 2012!

resale/trade-in value for the Tacoma has to be one of the best in the industry...including cars.

I have bought and traded a lot of cars/trucks in my lifetime...

I don't believe I have done much better ever than the trade-in of my 2010 Tacoma.

I bought it in November after researching and driving every truck out there. I commute to work, about an 80 mile round trip.

As anyone with a new vehicle, I love my 2012 Tacoma 4WD. and think I made a good choice, based on lots and lots of research. So what can I say? I traded in a 1999 Ranger to get it, so I now have lots more cool stuff to play with and make driving better/more fun.

One thing that might be of interest & importance to you (it is not, to some people), is that newer vehicles have more safety features than older ones. My old Ranger had two airbags. My new Tacoma has a crap load of them. And other safe stuff.

4x4? OP, I see you are in California, so you aren't faced with the winter driving some of us are. 4 wheel drive is dictated to some of us by our lifestyle. I haul dead deer, a boat, a travel trailer, sometimes in some rugged areas. Plus I like doing a little light four wheeling. It is fun to have, and I've had 4WD for the past thirty five years and couldn't live without it. There are downsides, mostly to do with cost.

Good luck with your new purchase, whatever you get.

Nothing beats new, for many of the reasons posted.

Unless we are talking old classic car/truck. but then the real nice examples become museum pieces...which is nothing more than expensive art.

gimme the latest & greatest any day.

How much did you pay? I sold mine for $6300 with a/c out. I loved that truck but time moves on.

this is what I mean by trade-in value. Try that with a Chebby or Ford (actually don't...I already did and it has cost me tens of thousands over the years)

btw, how many miles did your '09 have on it? and, did you get a discount off MSRP on the new one as well.

23.5K for an '09 prerunner is outstanding. good job!

32000 on the odometer....just a $500 rebate

It was nice to have some power at the dealership. What i mean is i really didn't care if they made the deal or not. I loved that truck, just wanted a 6spd and a 4x4. He started at $21000, I said $23500, came back at "meet me half way" $22250. I said look, I don't need this truck I would like to have it, but its not a need. I can get back into my old truck and drive away and be perfectly happy, if we can't make this deal its quite alright, $23500 firm.....

In '09 the sticker was $27000, they were offering a $1500 rebate and for that month the dealership was doubling it for $3000 off. Bought the truck for $24000.....three years later trade it in at $23500....like i said in the previous post...couldn't pass it up

Now that's bargining. The one thing I maintained when I was out looking for my '12 is that I did not need the truck. Like you, I would love to have it, BUT i did not need it, and that goes a loooong way when negotiating for pricing on new vehicles.

Good job man.
