    Thanks!

A shop could do something like that easily. It took me a weekend to build, taking my time. One day to bend the tube, cut the other pieces and the next day I welded it together.

Believe this is not the G2, which slides and is rated for 1250#. Isn't this the TRac, rated for 800# by TracRac? When I called TR they informed me that the TRac was the only one which would fit post 2005 Tacomas and can only be rated for 500# because of the composite bed.

I hear ya, but in my searching it seems you are gonna pay close to the same cost no matter what. Thule, TracRack, custom rack... you won't get out for less than $500 no matter what. Kinda makes the Thule reasonable. I'd say the only cheap way out is to just get a simple headache rack for around $200 and mickey-mouse it the kayak on top of the tailgate.

    Build thread in sig...
OP, i know you got yourself a rack, but i'll post this for refference, for anyone who may stumble across this thread in the future.

i build this rack a little less than a year ago for a customer in florida.

sits just below the roof line for every day driving, and then has bolt-on cross bars that sit above the roof line for when he wants to carry his kayaks or anything else oversized.

    Tracrac names are terrible!

I just got this model as well, TracRac T-Rac G2

The sliding model is the TracRac G2.

So 500 lbs only on the T-Rac G2 huh? hmm.. I think the main difference between that and the G2 is that the sliding rail speads the load over the length of the plastic bed cover? or as you suppose to remove the cover for sliding verison?
