I guess this logic only works if that top tier gas really works better.
Yes, It works better. I found it cheaper to run the 91 octain in my truck than to run the 87.

I use Quiktrip and Conoco/Phillips for the truck. The car I could care less, just not Chavez gas..
But all the QT's in town get their gas from Conoco/Phillips. The main pipeline-transfer station is 38 miles from my house. It's a monster! All the QT tankers go there.
I don't like Shell at all. It's always 5-9 cents more per gallon then everyone else out here and I've been told buy several people, engineers, that Shell has more sulphur than other brands. I like BP too when I can find 'em, they have 93 octane.

So chris4x4,
As stated then my theory is it is clearly worth it to spend the extra $2 per fillup if that quality works. It amazes me that some people drive miles out of there way to get gas 3 cents cheaper per gallon at the quickie mart. I for one am a believer and make other sacrifices to ensure quality gas goes in my dwindling investment I call a vehicle (minus my beater truck). LOGIC PREVAILS again.

We have so many no-name stations around here it's crazy. It's actually hard to find a "brand name" but the one you see the most is BP. I buy Exxon-Mobil for a few reasons: their station is closest to my house, they have good quality gas, and I own their stock.

BUT, full disclosure, I DO buy gas at Costco when I'm in town (Myrtle Beach; I live about 20 minutes south. I paid $1.65 for premium (93) this past weekend. Everyone else had premium for $1.80 or so.

Im not picking on you Killer Red, you just happen to be a nearby post. I know alot of friends that will drive quite a ways the opposite direction to save 3 cents a gallon.

I was actually trying to draw a correlation between cost vs quality of performance.

Using that same logic why would one pay more for shock A if shock B can actually work in a similar manner. Its because shock A will undenyably give better performance over the long haul. Im not stupid about spending my money but I do belive in some sitiations you get what you pay for.

^That's true. Otherwise, we'd all be driving domestics.

I agree very much so, When i compare the prices the station are on the same block. I never understand the drive across town for .5 cents and wait in line for 15 mins w/ your engine running the whole time

I think what you're getting at is cost per mile vs price per gallon.

Say you get 18mpg with gas costing $2/gal with a 18 gallon tank. You spent $36 to go 324 miles, making each mile costs 11 cents (36/324 = .1111)

Now say you get 20 mpg with a better quality gas that costs 5c more than the other gas. You'll spend $37 to go 360 miles. Each mile costs 10 cents (37/360 = .103)

While getting the cheaper gas SEEMS less expensive each time you fill up, you're filling up more often. It would cheaper to spend the extra little bit of money and buy something that you get better performance out of and you'll be saving money to boot!

EGGZACKLY right. hence forth, moral of the story is to buy better quality gas even if it costs a few cents more per gallon.

BTW: Erie PA, I bought a bike up there from Cycle City and they shipped it to me here in FL.

Sorry OP,, yet another post that was hijacked. Im gonna get beat up if i keep this up.

I have a Shell Citi Visa. It gives 5% off the price. So it usually works out equal to or less than the cheap stuff.
