    Ok,

So I bought my Tacoma with snugtop tonneau hard cover and soon realized that I have almost zero room for stuff back there, so I want to upgrade to a canopy, only problem is, that I have had one before and realize that sometimes I need to haul bigger stuff, so I'm thinking of getting an aluminum one that I can remove easily but still throw on if I want to sleep back there or haul something while it's raining (Washington State!). I was wondering if anyone here had a picture of a 2nd Gen Tacoma with an aluminum cap, I don't want to look too much like a tool if I get lazy and leave it on around town...

Softopper may not be waterproof enough for rainforest rains would be my only concern

I have looked at the soft caps, but they are about 600 Dollars, new, I went down to the canopy world here in tacoma and they offered me a carpet lined aluminum cap for 450, and offered me 100 for my bed cover... I've listed my cover on craigslist but no hits yet... I know they go for a pretty penny new, and 100 seems kinda low... thoughts? Maybe I should list it here too...

An aluminum topper for $350? If that thing is like the pic oz posted and has a rack, that is a nice deal IMO

100 bucks is def real low, but it's hit or miss finding a buyer, you should def list it on here.

I saw a 2nd gen Tacoma today on the highway with an aluminum cap. To me, they look too work truck. I like the look and fit of fiberglass much more.

I had one on mine sorry no pics. It does make it look like a work truck they are pretty square and don't flow with the body on a 2gen. but it always worked for camping and stuff. I'm 5'9 165lb built like a stick and could take it off by myself.

Well, I got a hit on craigslist, if it doesn't pan out I will post on here. Thanks for all the replies guys! I am a little afraid it will look like crap since I can't seem to find a picture anywhere... Maybe a bad sign:confused:

I had a black one on my truck yesterday. I don't have any pics of it on my truck. I found it on craigslist for $100 here in Tacoma, Wa.. It really a lot better than a cover or a soft top. I sleep back there occasionally but I have a slide in camper made by pastime for longer trips. It's not like a color match leer but it still looks good to me.
I'll try to post a pic later today. I need someone to help me lift it back onto the truck for a quick picture.

There was that guy who did the Alaska expedition in his 2nd gen, he had an aluminum cap on his silver truck. It didn't look that bad. See if you can find a picture, I'm at work so I don't have time to search really. (and i'm lazy)

Found this cap for $25.00 on CL. Painted it black. It is easy to put on and take off. Hell, I could scrap it and get my money back.

Awesome, this is exactly what I was looking for...

Yeah, OZ, that is exactly what I am looking for, probably without the racks on top though, they do make it look a little commercial.

I'm going to post an ad for the tonneau cover here see if any locals want to pick it up...

It's not new, it's not Mexico
I think those aluminum caps are better suited on an older man's truck.

    Another pic

Finally, I had someone come home and help with putting the canopy back on for a quick picture.

Man, I really appreciate that! It doesn't look too bad, I think. Definately getting the aluminum one, now I just have to decide between slick or corregated aluminum... and the color, I think I'l just get silver since my truck is silver. And, of course wait for my tonneau cover to sell...

I found one more picture I had. This is a Unicover model I found very cheap. Great for camping or hauling stuff in the bed on vacation or travel. Plus it covers my shovel and hi-lift jack. Getting it water tight takes some work with foam and a tall foam in the front. Found the foam sealing tape at McMaster-Carr.
