I installed new fogs in my father in laws 2012 Taco base model and wired the 12V supply to the hot on the low beam headlights so that he can't leave them on (i.e. they only can be on when he has the headlights switched on).

Unfortunately it works for about 10 seconds and then blows the 10 amp headlight fuse for the headlight it is wired to. Is this just a no-no? Are the fogs drawing too much power for the 10 amp fuse?

I have a 2010 Taco with the fogs built in and this is how they are factory wired so just looking for help.

    Thanks much!

Your factory fogs do not take power from the low beams, they are on their own circuit and have their own fuse, siwtch and relay.

You need to install a relay, have the low beam trigger the relay and have the fogs draw their own fused power from the battery or an add-a-circuit. You are blowing a fuse because you've overloaded the circuit for the headlights.

You need a relay (small solenoid). In your case the relay would be switched by the hot low beam headlight.

Here's a link to how I installed my fogs. They are wired into the parking lights so they come on when ever I have on my parking lights, low beams or migh beams.
