Looking to get a camper for the bed of of 2007 Double Cab Tacoma. Will be traveling cross country over 7k miles. Looking for any suggestions on type or what to look out for.

Currently looking at an '86 slide in shasta. fits width wise. Bed is 60" long (not include tailgate), camper is 82", not sure if that is an issue.

Wondering if the double cab will impact things at all and what I would have to deal with in high winds (no experience here).

    Thanks for your time.

Welcome to the site. Here are the only two I've seen. I think this is what you're looking for. I know nothing about them so I can't answer any questions about them.

Several suggestion: air bags, at least C rated tires, proper tie downs

Each State laws are different regarding visibility of tail lights. You may have to attach lights to the rear of the camper if they don't have them.

I have been in 60 mph winds. It does move around a little but nothing to be worried about.

There might be a problem with the center balance of a long camper in a short bed. It may ride funny being light in the front of your truck.

You may have to attach a platform to bottom of the camper to raise the camper up so it doesn't hit your cab. It looks like the pictured Northstar pop up has one and I had to raise mine too.

Might want to look into a Flippac. Not quiet a hard shell camper but not a bad alternative in my opinion.

For something like this, it doesn't weigh nearly as much so suspension upgrades would be minimal (I'd still plan on beefing up the leafs since stock they are pretty weak), you'll get MUCH better mileage because of the low profile and you won't get blown around nearly as much from cross winds.
