So here is what im looking at

i bought a 05 TRD OR DC prerunner Indigo ink @82k miles 3 months ago. I really wanted a TRD Dports back then but couldnt find a decent one. Just now found a 06 TRD sport DC prerunner SWB long bed 93k miles. . Here is the thing if i trade mine in for that its almost an even trade so im not loosing any money besides like $500 bucks. The SWB is a lot cleanner and better condition than mine. What do you guys think? should i keep my truck or Trade it in. PS my fav taco color is SWB.

Your call. If you can make it an even trade, I don't see why you wouldn't if it's what you really want.

    Pics would be nice.

ha ha no man i would love a 4x4 but then i know once i buy it, i will put thousands of dollars and i know i will test it limits and break it. Im big on finances and what makes sense but buying a 4x4 and then investing money on it and then taking it to the trail is an expensive hobby. Plus 4x4 is hard to find and they are super expensive. Here is the link to pics of the car im looking into.

I will never understand the power a fake hoodscoop has over you guys! :)

However, if you can do an even swap I say go for it.

Dont care for the scoop much although it looks nice. Main reason, Color, color matched grills, mirrors, bumper, steering wheel controls, long bed AND of course looks a lot cleaner than my truck.

I say keep what you have. although to you it may look close to an even trade, the dealer will not let that happen and once you touch that TRD sport they will know they have you by the balls and you will end up taking a huge hit and be upside down. it doesnt make sense to buy a truck and 3 months later turn around and try to trade it. you have to factor in all the interest they soaked you for which makes your payoff higher and NOT the sticker price you think it is. I would say no.

thanks for the valid points, i love my current truck and if its not an even trade i will not go for it. Im not ready to loose any money on it. Plus the dealer is owned by one of our biggest clients ( our company magaes his hotel) and i know him personally so actually might just get the cost price on the SWB. This is the only reason i even thought about doing it. Ill let you guys know how it goes when i go there tomorow.

doesnt matter how well you know the owner, its in the finance company's hands now that you already have your truck. if you bought it for 15k and with interest your payoff is now 23k A. your buddy that owns the dealer is not going to give you what you paid for it 3 months ago (15k), and B. he certainly isnt going to give you 7k MORE than you paid for it so you can start with a clean slate. there is no way, unless you put a significant amount of money down, (and even then, you are just going to lose all that money/equity) that this is going to be even. i say they rope you for $50-$100 more per month for a truck that is one year newer, has less options, and more miles all because they did a good job waxing it and it looks clean in their dealer photos. it doesnt make any sense to me.

not sure what the complication is? if they're willing to trade in for even, or you put a lil cash in, how are you even losing on your truck? basically you're paying a little more to get a truck that you want more? doesn't sound very hard. All that finance stuff depends on if you even owe, and can get a similar loan

If you can break even or really close to it then why not? It sounds like the SWB is the one you really want anyway. Good luck in your decision :)

you don't owe the 23K unless it goes to the full length of the loan, if it was 3 months ago, he only owes 15K and change + any early payoff fees if any

you assumed that i ow a whole lot on the truck. When i bought it, it came out to be 19500 ( includes the 2500 i paid for toyota care 60 k miles waranty) with ttl. I paid 12k down financing only 7500 @3.9 apr making my payment $135.

Now the new truck is priced at 16900. Because i might get a hook up lets say for the examples sake, they bring it down to 15500 and price my truck according to the KBB trade in value at 14k then 15500 - 14k = 1500+ 7000 ( that i owe ) = 8500 financed ammount + tax puts me somewhere around $175 per month. Mind you the 1500 care package that i paid for, im getting back 2300 for it. NOw for 25 to 30 dollars a month more why wouldnt i want a truck that i like and want. If this is not the deak they agree with then no problem they can keep the truck and ill keep mine. its still a TAcoma DC TRD OR. Makes sense to me.

PS. It does matter a whole lot if you know the dealerships and their managers. My current truck was priced at 17998 + ttl since it only had 70 k miles and was a TRD OR. Because i knew the GM he brought it down to 15500 +ttl. Thats almost 2500 less than what they asked for.

Bingo! No way is a dealership going to do something that they'd lose money on or just give you a truck.

OP, i think ur numbers look possible, it all depends on what they give you on trade, and what they sell that truck to you for, if you know the owners, and they give you the new truck at their cost, they'll just make a couple on your trade-in. Because as of right now, that new truck already has their markup on it. just depends on the deal you can swing.
