Question Thoughts on "realistic" trade value 2011 DCSB TRD Off ROAD

Thinking about trading in my 2011 Tacoma TRD off road JBL package, MGM color. 21K Miles, excellent condition. 1 deep scratch on the very top of the tailgate. Other than that excellent condition. Does have Viper Remote start also, professionally installed.

Looking to move to a 2010 or 2011 Tundra double cab or crew max. Need more space and a larger bed.

curious what all of your thoughts are on the value of the trade looking at a tundra priced around $29K, not really wanting to spend too much more on the trade. KBB states around $28K

If I trade I will be selling all aftermarket parts. ARE Topper, N-Fab bars, Roof rack, floor mats etc.

You aren't going to get anywhere NEAR KBB's 28k in trade on a $29k Tundra.
You might get 20k for it... trading on a 75k Sequoia Limited.

Car dealerships are in business to sell new cars, not to buy used cars.
They take trades because they have to, because when a vehicle is not paid off, most buyers are unable to sell the used car for what they owe, so the dealership gives than 50% of what they owe in trade value and finances the rest of the balance into the new vehicle.

I just traded in my 2010 SR5 6cyl, 4x4, Access cab, auto for $23,000. It had 22,000 miles on it lots of scratches and a few minor dings. Interior however was flawless. Hope that helps.

Depends on what you still owe on yours.

You say the Tundra is 29K.And let's say you owe 29K on your truck.Then let's say the dealer offers you 24K in trade.You going to be 5K upside down making the 29K Tundra a 34K tundra.

You gain nothing by trading one you still owe on the majority of the time.

Yup.....then add in financing and tax, title, dest, reg, bend over, take it ITB, and all the extra charges.......you are gonna have an expensive tundra.

Trading in something that new that you still owe a buttload on(assuming you do of course.....maybe you dont tho) you are gonna lose your pants on the deal.

And I know I am not going to get a no cost trade to tundra, just curious what a realistic number is, and 20K as mentioned above is ridicules.

It is the end of the month, deals are to be had for those last couple sales of the month..

Honestly when I bought this truck it was less than the used 2010 I was also looking at with Identical spec's. More people in colorado buy the used since they have 2.9% where new is typically around the 4.9.

Owe about half of value.

If the tundra was a resonable price added to upgrade it would be worthwile to upgrade as I need the added cargo space.

Thanks. As a SR5, non TRD model, and one year older I should easily see a couple grand more.



Also looking for numbers so that when I am in the dealer I have better info than just a KBB price.

just another way i like to look at it, it may sound obvious, but i don't think a lot of people really see it the same way. It really all depends on how you walk out of there, because if they super lowballed you on your trade, but gave you an awesome deal on the new car, then it could turn out to be worthwhile, because some people will be like well they gave me more than i expected on the trade, but get killed on the new car purchase. Either way the dealer is gonna make their money, but some people can't tell if they got a good deal or not. I'm not saying that's any of the case here, but just another way to look at it.

How about out of 35 years of experience buying new vehicles and trading in old ones, and always being fucking pissed that the dealers don't give one shit about what KBB says it's worth.

I've never even gotten close to KBB dealer trade on any trade-in on vehicles that were in perfect condition, just high mileage.

2003 Tundra, 125k on it, KBB valued at 18k in 2005.
I got 10k trading for an '06 $53k Duramax.
1991 Ford Escort with 135k on it, KBB valued at $4k in 1996.
I got 1500 trading for an $11k '94 Toyota PU with '30k on it.


So pull all of the high numbers out of your ass that you want, he's a lot better off going in expecting to be fucked with no lube because that's what WILL happen unless the dealer is seriously overstocked on what he's buying and already has a buyer lined up for his trade.
