KBB doesn't have the 2012 tacoma in the used section for figuring out prices..thought I'd ask here.

2012 Double Cab Short bed TRD sport 4x4
    Entune
    2,500 miles
    MGM
warranty is extended (toyota dealership pre owned)

It's the exact truck I've been looking for. Was going to buy a new one but figured I could save myself some money by getting this slightly used one. They have it listed for $34,000. Going to go check it out in the next couple days.

what should I offer? I was thinking 28,000..

I don't think 28 + ttl will take it home, but best of luck!

Dealer said that it was traded in for something else. So you're saying they will only come off $500 from their 34,000 asking price? It looks like this truck has been going for around 31k +TTL brand new... I'd be happy with 29+ttl, anything more and I might as well get one with zero miles

Buy new... it'll be too much of a battle to get them down from 34.

Just picked up a 2012 with 16k miles, TRD Sport, tow package, entune, v6 engine, and 2wd for $27k last week. Being 4wd, I'd go for under $30k. If they won't deal with you, keep looking. Others will come along.

Interest rate will be higher on a used truck than a new one too.

They will come down more than that. It is a used vehicle, and should be priced as such. When the first owner drove it off the lot he dropped that first new-car depreciation down the drain.
Personal experience: My truck had a sticker of $26k. The first owner bought it, they registered it in his name, but then his check bounced (he was then arrested for all kinds of white collar crimes; bought a house, jet-skis, BMW etc. with stolen money and when he bought the truck to pull the jet-skis, justice had caught up with him and his bank account was frozen), the dealer got the truck back from his house with 226 miles on it. I bought it for $19k, because it was used. They started asking me sticker price though, we negotiated down to about $20k, and then finally I told them $19k or I walk, and they approved.

Good luck OP, hope you get a great deal.

True. There are good deals now on new. Sometimes 0% or 0.9% on shorter terms. Used is typically no lower than 3%. Do the calcs to make sure it is worth it (or pay cash!)

It amazes me why people settle for second place from the start.

As far as that goes, I am approved for 2.74% APR for 60 months on the truck, gotta love credit unions :)

All you guys make good points. Yea obviously there is the risk of the first owner being a 'tard and abusing the truck. If the truck looks and drives like the ones with zero miles, I'm going to guess it'll be fine. Plus it is under factory AND extended warranty...

I am considering this truck over a new one mainly for one reason...

    PRICE
Unless tacos are exempt from this..Once someone buys a new car and drives it off the lot, it loses it "new car" value. So if people are buying these new for around $31,000, am I wrong for assuming that getting it for 28-29k is possible?

Save 2-3 grand and buy a car that was used for 2 months doesn't sound bad to me. But everyone is different.

Just bought a 2012 MGM TRD Sport short bed 4X4 without the Entune system last Thursday for $31,500. Entune adds about $2000 to the sticker. My truck only had 6 miles on it when I drove it off the lot. You definitely should be able to get it for around $28k.

I would do it now before it's gone. The dealership here called me and told me this one just came in. I traded my '11 MGM TRD Sport 4x2 short bed (which was leased) and they gave me $24k for it :)
