Zip Locker selectable air locker?

Has anyone used this locker or heard anything about them? The link shows an application for 2005 Tacomas and they seem to have a really good warranty. It only shows an option for an 8" diff though so I am curious.

Yeah, I know that it is an 8". On the website it says 2005+ Tacoma. I remember hearing that the 8.4 is actually 8"

I apologize if I confused you. All of the gears (diffs) measure 8" , but they are not all referred to as 8" gears. That's why you see all the aftermarket support refer to them as 8.4". I guess to eliminate confusion.

I just wonder why they would make it for an already locked rear. All the aside though. I am just looking to see if anyone has used one and if it worked well.

I don't get why they would have them listed for '03+ 4 runner 05+taco anf Fjs if that is the case. Check out this page real quick... http://www.marlincrawler.com/differe...ker/zip-locker

I get that the older trucks are 8" as well as the Elocker diff. I guess I'll just have to call them and ask why they would make one for the already locked rear and not the LSD rear "like I have".

The 8.4 probably has less room due to the larger carrier bearings and truss.

Just got an email from Yukon and they said they are planning on releasing a locker for the 8.4 early next year.

Don't go with the Zip locker. Spend the extra chips and go with the ARB.
I have seen a video testing the Zip (which is an ARB knock-off) against the ARB.
During the test, an axle was put into each of the lockers. Simulated torque was added mechanically as if they were being used on a trail. Both broke their respective axles. The Zip failed miserably at a lower amount of torque/pressure which required a full replacement.
The ARB was taken apart and inspected. No damage whatsoever.

That is why I went with the ARB... proven product.

Ya it broke at an insane amount of torque that 98% of people will never get close to.

If price is a problem go Zip. I run one and I've never had a problem! I know Jeeps that run them without a problem.

that video speaks volumes. is it just me or does it appeat that the splined portion of the axle shaft appear that is was deeper in the yukon? they never showed us the broken portion that was inserted into the arb for a true reference.

I DEMAND ANOTHER VIDEO!!!!!!! also, were do i apply for the job??!!!!!!

Axle depth is not the issue. The more 'bite' or 'grip' the locker has on the axles enhances the positive chance of the locker not grenading like in the video.
The ARB braking the axle and the chunk that was removed is a mute point. Like the video states, the axle is the weakest link which was shown. The Zip locker was demolished... not breaking the axle (again, said to be the weakest link) which would necessitate the purchase of yet again, another locker.

Think of it as breaking someones wrist with your forefinger and thumb (ARB) and taking both hands (Zip Locker) to do the same.

Axle depth is a factor. I was referring to the video. The ARB wins hands down.
