Rear seat belt won't extend

The rear driver's side seat belt in my 2007 access cab won't pull out. It moves about 2-3" and then locks. I've tried pulling at different angles, and fast and slow. Before I take everything apart, is there anything else to try?

 

Joe is the truck sitting level? If it is on an incline the pawls can activate with gravity. The other thing that may have happened is that it may have gotten twisted and is caught on the fold. The only answer here is to get it worked out and straightened.

 

The truck is level, so that's not it. I suppose it could be folded inside the door panel. I foresee some interior surgery in my future...was hoping to avoid that.

 

Are you able to access the pawls of the mechanism with a flat screwdiver perhaps enabling the belt to extend? If there is a fold in there this may allow you to get it out and straightened without invasive surgery.

 

I doubt it. The belt goes through a slot in the trim panel. All the mechanism is behind the panel.

Bring it in to the dealer. Toyota is very good at seat belt replacements.

Nothing for u to fix in there. Replacement only

 

Should I expect to pay the dealer for this, or is there a TSB?

 

No tsb. Like I said Toyota is real good ( at least at my place) at replacing these beyond warr. I've changes these out on older vehicles no charge.
