I have a 2005 prerunner. It is very annoying to have to unlock the passenger door to enter. Is there a way when you exit the drivers side, all the doors unlock? Thanks.

    Press the 'unlock' button? :notsure:

Welcome to TW, not quite sure what you're asking... You want something that automatically unlocks all the doors when you open the driver's door?

I don't carry the remote. Yes, I want all the doors to unlock when I exit the driver's side.

no, hit the unlock button the the door itself. Does your truck not have the lock/unlock button on the door?

If you hit the unlock on the key fob twice it will unlock all doors. If you use the key in the driver side door to unlock, just turn it clockwise twice to unlock all doors.

Edit: Sorry, you posted as I was writing.

Ok. I didn't think my question was so hard. I have the access cab. When vehicle starts moving doors automaticaly lock? When I exit the drivers side and try to enter the passenger door it is still locked. I don't carry the remote because of the bulk. Is there a code to automatically unlock all doors when you exit the drivers side?

To answer your question, not without an aftermarket alarm/remote start.

    1. On my truck the the doors do not automatically lock when the truck starts moving.

    2. Hitting the unlock button on the door unlocks all the doors.

My doors (2012 DCSB, SR5) don't lock automatically when I start moving. I didn't know some Tacoma did automatically lock.

First, the doors don't lock when you start driving (at least mine don't). Second, either unlock all the doors when you first get in the vehicle or hit the unlock button when you get out to unlock the passenger door.

I'm sure with enough re-programming you could have the truck unlock all the doors when you put the truck into park, but that would not necessarily be an easy task and would be 100% custom wiring.

OK you're right they don't automatically lock. What is common for me is: I will lock from the drivers side interior. When I return to the truck, I use the key to enter the driver's door. The passenger door stays locked. At my next stop, I get out and want to get my samples off the passenger seat. I don't have/use the remote. The passenger door is still locked all this time. I thought there might be a code process to have the passenger door unlock when I exit the driver's side. The people who are saying to hit the button or use the remote are not reading my post carefully.

Try turning the key twice and it will unlock all of the doors. Works for mine - 2010.

Before you exit the drivers seat, just push the unlock button on the drivers door switch panel DOWN and it will unlock both doors, then proceed to walk around and open the now UNLOCKED passenger door?!?!?!

And no there is no code, nor will any code in existance work, because when you pull the door handle from the inside of your truck, it MECHANICALLY unlocks the door...so how do you expect a "code" to open the passenger side?? The only thing that would do that is a cable running from your drivers interior handle to the locking mechanism on the passenger door....but that's just effing stupid.

Well, not to sound unappreciative, but thanks for nothing. If I knew when I was going to want to enter the passenger side door of course I could unlock it from the inside before I exit the truck. You're right, when opening the driver's door it "mechanically" unlocks the door. I don't know why I was thinking electrical. I make a lot of stops and only need to open the passenger side occasionally.

If you want it to automatically unlock the passenger door every time you get out, you're out of luck (without a custom electronic controller).

However, I have to point out that you would get the exact effect you are looking for if you just make it a habit to always hit the unlock button on the door as you get out of the truck.

You say you wouldn't always need to get in the passenger side. Well, an automatic unlock controller would ALWAYS unlock the passenger door, whether you need it to or not. So if you get into the habit of hitting the unlock button, you become your own automatic unlock controller. Except for free.
