I just bought a cv axle from rock auto because mine went bad and was starting to "click." I've searched around but couldnt find a definite answer and i dont have time to keep searching and its kinda urgent. I need to know what else I need besides the cv axle itself. im told i need to replace some seals and the diff bearing and i need to get them pressed in? do i take the whole cv to the shop to get it pressed? ANY advice is much appreciated

OME all around. SPC UCA. This and that.
When I did my half shafts in the 1997 Tacoma I replaced the seal's in front diff. I popped the old seal out using a flat head screw driver and installed the new seal using a 1/4 socket extension and a hammer going really slow and gentle around the new seal. A pry bar to get out old half shafts was a BIG help. There was an odd mm socket needed on the wheel end of the 1/2 shaft. I found on size bigger after looking everywhere and it worked. My torque wrench did not go to the whatever torque it was but I weigh 120 lbs and stood on the socket wrench hopping torque was close. Easy job PB blaster your bolts the day before. Research all torque settings. Use search button to find more info.

There's not enough bandwidth for what's happening.
At minimum, replace the diff seal and inner wheel seal. If you're going to mess with the needle bearing, do it right and get the bushing instead of the bearing from East Coast Gear Supply. Get the removal tool as well.

Your axle nut should be 35mm. Torque it to 172 ft/lbs.

You can do them yourself. The trick is to take your time and get them in evenly / square. The wheel seal can be easily installed by tapping it in with a wood block / hammer (gently). The diff seal can be installed in the same manner or by using the old seal in place of a wood block (if you don't mess it up too bad when removing it).

Go to RockAuto site and search. They're there.

Yes ... you'll lose some as soon as you pull the axle. 1 quart should do it unless the truck is jacked in a way that you'll lose more.

Up to you. If a lot spills out then it would be a good idea to top her off... However, If the one side is jacked up enough, only drops will come out of the diff so you should be ok if that's the case.

Sorry for thread jack... But do you have more info on the bushings? Link? 1st Gens too? I recently destroyed both of my needle bearing after snapping 2 CV axles on the short outer stub shaft and need to replace those bearings....
