So i took my truck in for its first oil change(08 DC TRD OFFROAD) and to get the airbag recall done and they tell me that my front brakes are shot, and my drive shaft needs replacing. I told him I though I had axle wrap and they say its the shaft bearings or something. What the hell. Just bought this thing 2 months ago and put 4,500 miles on it. The Fort walton dealership were I bought it has a check list of inspections they said they did but Panama city toyota is saying no way. Also the fidelity powertrain insurance is saying they don't cover drive shafts!!!! WOW!! They told me it would be $1500. I dont have that kind of money. ANY HELP?

If your suspension has been lifted/modified, then all bets are off with regards to any warranty plan.

I bought the truck used with 81,000 miles from a full fledged toyota dealership. The driveshaft was bad when I got the thing I just didn't notice the it when I was test driving it. it has 86,000 miles now. The front brakes are shot and they checked them off on their checklist as good as well.

I beleive they said carrier bearing. If so I have a decent ability to work on my vehicle and plenty of tools just infamiliar with drive shafts. If its the carrier bearing should I tell them not to do it and do it myself. They said 1500$!!

This happened when I had a Scion xB at 9000 miles. The bill was around $700 so I googled the number for the main office of Toyota Corporate or whatever and told them that I had been buying Toyotas all my life and did not ever expect something like this to happen with so few miles. I also told them I was very angry with them and that I may stop buying Toyotas all together. Surprisingly they said they would pay the entire bill for the brakes to be fixed!! I really didn't expect this I was just calling to complain... So try that, it worked for me.

Rotors, pads, and carrier bearing will probably cost you about $200 and an afternoon.

So if its the carrier bearing, just do it myself. CHECK. Would a carrier bearing make it feell like axle wrap? Or a thud when launching and braking?
What problem would require me to get a new drive shaft like they are saying? Are they trying to screw me or something?

Since you just bought this truck from the dealership and assuming it wasn't cpo because of the mileage, what exactly are the stipulations of the warranty on the drive train? And if this truck was inspected, why wasn't this issue found? Wasn't there at least a 3 month warranty in regards to the checklist of inspection? I'd really talk to Toyota corporate about this.

I bought a used Lexus from the Lexus dealership and it was not cpo because of miles but it DID have a three month warranty. I used it in regards to the CD player that did not work from the beginning of my ownership. It was on the checklist of things that "passed" so I was adamant about them covering it even though I was verbally told NO. I let them know how disappointed I was (stating how the salesman used "6-disc CD changer as a selling point) and ended up talking to the sales manager who authorized the CD player be pulled out of the car, sent out to be repaired and then re installed.

$1500 is what it costs for the entire driveshaft , I would suggest you stop guessing and find out exactly what they are suggesting needs replacing and why .
