I do agree that while some dealerships are straight thieves, there is some honest ones too. They do need to make profit to stay in business. it's when they get greedy and try to make way too much at the customers loss. The "high pressure" dealerships are the worst with their usual lines and four squares scheme. Don't ever tell them how much you have to spend, how much you owe, or whether you will be financing. they use this information to their advantage.

certain manufactures give incentives to the salesmen some do not. a good friend of mine before he was promoted to finance manager a couple months back was selling subaru's and kia's.

now kia would give him 400 dollars on top of every deal he made and there was more money in the car to begin with. now subaru did not offer incentives to the salesmen or the dealership and there is less money in those cars.

its not what you know its what you think you know. i have literally worked in the automotive business for my whole life since i was a little kid i have seen almost every aspect of it. after almost 20 years spent there i can say with out a doubt every person i have met/ worked for has been a complete piece of shit on some level or another :/

i dont know about the domestic manufacturers, but out of the japanese, german, and korean, hyundai/kia (same owners) are the only ones I heard of, that pay the dealer any money that isn't publicly advertised as a buying incentive.

Hans, I'm also unsure how you think your truck could be anywhere near 37k? especially with 20 years in the bizzz

and to the OP, if they won't go any further, that means you are the one being unreasonable, if they could make the deal happen, they would, but your truck is used, and they need to see profit off of it to take the risk of bringing it in.

Imagine that , the dealership is in the business to turn a profit

And here I always thought they were a charity

How many miles are on the truck? In all reality $22,000 is a fair number on that truck that is now almost 4 years old. Think about it this way, they have to sell that truck for roughly $25,500 to really make any money.

Ask your self this, would you pay $25,000+ for a truck that old when you can get a new one for $29k and change? IMHO I think you're not being very realistic in this transaction.

52,000 miles.... and just out of curiosity, I went to Toyotas web site
and built a 2012 with the options I have... and I know this is an MSRP,
and there is wiggle room, so you could get it for less.
    2012 Toyota Tacoma
    MSRP: $ 34,640.00

I'm not that bummed out, they offered me 22K, I wanted 24K,
they came up to 22.5... if they had met me halfway, I'd be waiting
for my new VW right now (They would have to locate a Jetta TDI
with the premium package and manual tranny, there were none on the lot)
    I understand it's a negotiation process, I just don't like it!
So, I have to keep driving the Tacoma for a while... not exactly the end
    of the world. :D

This makes since about new vs. used. I went to the dealer to get my Taco. I seen 2-3 year old Taco's for anywhere $26-29,000. And when it was all said and done I decided new with only *my* miles on it was worth the extra few grand. But I traded in a 2012 Hyundai Tucson for my Taco....the dealer priced it for more than its window sticker:confused:. Dealers make there money on used cars/trucks. They have more of a mark up space.

But all in all reverse it....nobody wants to pay MSRP or book value. Everyone wants to get a break. Them lowballing the book value is thier way of trying to get a break. Just my $.02

Why would you want a VW TDI!!! I mean really , Better Diesels are on their way here in a few months . The Chevy Cruze and the Mazda 3 and 6 will have a diesel for 2013 .... and not loaded with all the emission crap that VW has. I was a VW Diesel Tech , ask me why I dont have a new TDI ????the ALH motor 2000 to 05 was by far the best TDI ... easy to tune and would last a long time when taken cared for ..
