'14? They're gonna start over with the 1st gen pickups from the 80's with the solid front axle...after all, it would only make sense :D

Start over? They're just gonna rebadge the 1st gen and call it 3rd gen.

No, I actually don't but the dipshits that lay out regulations like that will force it that way (doing more harm than good). I'm just not seeing how they can make the mileage criteria and keep the ability for it to be a decent work and off road truck.

Take it for what it's worth but Tacomahq.com reports a source confirming direct injection for the '14 model year. Whether it will be for the V6, I4 or both is unknown. The source said a redesign is several years away.

It makes sense new motor/tranny are the way to go along with body style tweaking and gear ratio to achieve the 28.8 govt regulation. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how capable a truck that gets those mileage would be.

    .
FWIW .. All manufacturers and even Toyota has had difficulties doing a "first year production model" without too many problems. It is a learning curve for any company.

After owning several "first year production models" ... i.e ... 2000 Tundra ... 2004 Titan ... 2007 Tundra ... and some others ..... I will NEVER own a "first year production model" again.

It is cool to have the latest and greatest vehicle ... but not at the expense of giant being a guinea pig.

I will wait until the "new production model" has been out a couple of years to buy one.

In the late 1970s, 1980s and 1990s when the vehicles were a lot more simple .... and first year production models were a lot better than today.

A good example was the old 22R engine and chassis and cab and single wall bed & tailgate.

Those things lasted forever and we also expected and got less creature comforts and safety items too ... much less stuff to go wrong.

EDIT ... Remember these old Toyota pickups that were very simple and ran forever --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Hilux

That reminds me, while at the dealer the other day they had a XSP Taco that had an add on type skewp and aftermarket fender flares. Anyone ever seen this?
