Hey guys I am looking to buy either a 4x4 or 2wd Automatic Tranny Tacoma.Im in the market for a Extended access Cab or a 4 door double cab either in a V-6 or 4 cyl.I am trying to do as much research as possible to get some REAL WORLD #s on the Fuel economy these trucks get.I wont be towing anything major or off roading the truck Im just looking for a Nice reliable Tacoma that gets good fuel mileage.I would rather have a 4x4 honestly but im afraid the 4x4s wont get much fuel mileage.I would like to buy a truck that gets at least 22mpg or better. The truck will be driven easily and not hot rodded so that should err on the conservative side of fuel economy. Please share what your Tacomas real world fuel mileage is and the trucks engine/Tranny specs to go with it.Thanks alot!

4-cyl. You cannot consider a V6 and get that kind of mileage.
You can go with base for maximum fuel mileage (30+), or prerunner/4x4 for 25+. Prerunner/4x4 should get the same on the highway, city will slightly favor the prerunner due to weight difference, maybe 1 mpg.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Maybe at 45-50 mph, but I would have a hard time believing it would get that at 65-70. My 2.7 AC 4x4 averages 19-24 highway and city.

My 2011 4cyl access cab 4x4 5 spd. Consistently averaged 21-22mpg hwy or city.

Traded it for a 2012 v6 DCSB 4x4 auto and I am averaging around 18mpg. If you're truly concerned with fuel economy, buy an extended cab 4x2 4cyl.

4 cyl. 4x4 5 spd. 23 to 25 mpg mixing town with highway. Going 70 to 75 it will get 21 to 22 mpg.

    Forgot, it's an access cab.

    Too few to list.
You want 22 or better, you're looking at the 4cyl and even then you have to drive a certain way to achieve good mpg. The v6 is capable of 22 on the highway but at 55-60 mph. See my fuelly below, that's my average. DC LB, auto with heavier wheels and tires. My best was a little bit above 22 stock wheels and tires.

Thanks for the replies guys I already have a F-250 Diesel 4x4 that gets around 16mpg so my everyday Truck I want to get at least 20mpg++ for the truck I plan to drive everyday.V-6 or 4 cylinder makes no difference to me because I haul everything in my F-250,but I want an Automatic,Extended Access Cab or a Doublecab 4 door those are what I want in the Tacoma Im looking to buy.Is there a big difference in mileage from the Prerunner 4x2s vs the Lower smaller tire 4x2s?

Get the prerunner AC, you'll be glad you did over the 4cyl. We've owned both, a 2007 4cyl that was traded for a 2009 prerunner. Tacoma's are not really for mpgs. I used to own a 1990 Toyota pickup, I think those got about 26's.

If you really want a Tacoma reliably over 20mpg, the 4cyl is the only way to go. With the 6cyl, you have to perform magic to get up to 20. With the 4cyl, you have to go mod crazy to get down to 20mpg.

I like driving the 4cyl stick. It is just fun and does whatever I want.
