Those doors in the bed

Anyone done a mod yet (or something aftermarket) putting a lock on those 2 doors that are in the bed?

wow, I see there is a lot of stuff on this already. One has to wonder why no one has done an aftermarket thing for this. It seems at least half or more of the buyers would opt in for it.

 

Has anyone tried anything to make them waterproof? With a lock and waterproofed it would make a nice place to keep a few tools.

 

I actually wondered about water proofing them but i have no idea how to do it, it seems like they should come that way from the factory. PB, if you read this thread how bout figuring out how to waterproof those bad boys, i know if anyone on the site can figure something out it will be you

 

It would be hard to do because of how the latch works. It sticks down through a hole in the compartment. This hole makes it not waterproof. You'd have to make a little enclosure on the outside of this latch hole.

 

yeah, i didn't do too much brainstorming but i think it could be done, just not real sure how to do it cheap and effectively.

 

It would be a lot of trouble to make it waterproof. I keep in one side a string type tire repair kit w/wirecutters, pliers, razorblade, reamer, and a shop rag, but it is all in a Rubbermaid container that fits just right. Things on the other side of truck are in containers also. Even if compartments were weatherstripped, tools would suffer from the condensation from such a small compartment

 

i still cant figure out what to put in those tiny compartments. i was thinking jumper cables in the large one, but the two small ones?

 

one side i keep alot of bungee cords for haulin and on the other side i keep a nylon tow strap. jumper cables go behind the seat.

 

I have rope, bungee cords and a ratchet (sp) strap in the big one, but i dont know what to put in the small one.

 

I keep jumper cables and a small fire extinguisher in the large one...though the air compressor mod looks like a better idea....don't know what to put in the small ones....they are almost too small.

 

the small one is definately too small. i might just put a tennis ball in there just to have it filled with something....
