I have a 2011 tacoma with dealer installed tint. Driver's side window tint is peeling and dealer is saying it is a result of the weathertech in window track deflector and will not replace under warranty. Has anyone had this issue and is there a resolution? I don't want to continue to replace it if it will continue to happen.

    Any help?

Didn't know dealers installed tint. Guess I can see it in Florida. Was that something the dealer said was covered under warranty? Cause the tint itself is kinda like a after market thing.

Did dealer install darker tint or do you mean factory tint? I've had in-channel visors for a few years now and never had any issues but mine arent weather techs.

Did the dealer apply the tint to the outside of the window? If not they either did a crappy job or used a cheap product. I've had tint applied on many vehicals (by actual tint companies) and never had an issue...even with wind deflecters installed.

Hopefully they werent stupid enough to tint the outside, haha. I bet their argument is from the weather techs, that extra pressure from the plastic on the other side is causing the defect.

The tint was installed aftermarket by the dealer to the inside of the windows. They replaced the passenger side under warranty and said they would not replace again as teh weather tech deflectors are causing the tint to peel due to the pressure in the window when it goes up. Do you think if I trim so the top of the tint is just below the rubber seal that it may resolve the continued peeling?

yeah, I had this happen with the peeling window tint on my frontier way back due to those in-channel wind deflectors..... never using them again.... more trouble than they're worth

I don't have them on my truck but I have had them on a couple of my cars in the past and I could see how the added pressure would cause this to happen. If I remember rite there was a lot of scratching at the tops of my windows from the pressure.

Southeastern Toyota Distributor probably installed the tint. Yes it is normally covered for 36 months or 36K miles.

I have seen this on several occasions, most likely it was caused by the in channel visors.

Sorry to jump in on your thread OP, but what did you do? Since it is not covered (which mine is past warranty too) did you have it fixed?

Does anyone know can it be fixed by possibly reapplication, or do you have to peel the whole window and redo? Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, but I don't have experience tinting. I assume you have to redo the window, and if that is the case, is it pretty easy for the tint to be matched to the other windows or do I need to have them all redone?

It has to be completely removed, it cannot be resealed. The adhesive is messed up once it's be separated from the glass.

I figured. Do you know if it is easy for an experienced person to match the tint, or should I have it all done?

There are different brands of tape and some have a slight brown tint to them, some have more of a gray and some are more bluish/black. In terms of darkness, it goes by percentages. For example, the tint on my front windows has always been 35%, meaning how much light is blocked. I have mine tinted to help keep the interior of the car cooler and to help protect the interior. Some go really really dark but it can make it difficult to see at night. You can go lighter but at that point, what's the use of tinting it?

SO...to answer your question, it's easy to match, especially if you get the same brand of tape. Just hold up a sample to the window and see if it matches. Keep in mind that some of the "metallic" tints (some have metallic compounds in them although you cannot see them) will affect sensors.

Isn't the VLT the amount of light that is let through?

I understood it to mean how much is blocked. 35% blocked is the darkest you can get away with.

My truck's front door windows are at 35%

Here is my other car also with 35% all the way around.

It's the amount of light let through...hence why 5% is much darker than 35%.
