The actual 12V receptacles are still there to plug appliances into, just not the lighter itself. My 2005 had one receptacle with a lighter, and one non-lighter receptacle, however my 2012 doesn't have a lighter at all, just 2 non-lighter outlets.

Now, I haven't tried because I no longer smoke, but in a previous vehicle (that also didn't come with a lighter), I tried to just buy the lighter separately thinking I could just use that in the outlet, however I could find one that fit and worked, so I believe they 2 different types of receptacles are even designed differently (although both will run appliances like cell phone chargers).

To me, this is a shame because as mentioned previously, there are occasions when that lighter comes in handy for things other than lighting a cigarette.

regarding the ashtray, I did prefer not to litter (again, I don't smoke anymore, but used to quite a bit), but you gotta do something with the butt when you're finished! basically, I'd keep an old gatorade or water bottle half-filled in the vehicle and when I'd finish a smoke I'd just pop the top off and toss it in there -- the water would extinguish the cigarette and once I put the cap back on the bottle I wouldn't have to worry about it smelling up the vehicle...then I'd just toss and replace it each time I filled up with gas.

^^^if you really want to add the cig plug to a 2012, you can it's plug and play but you're going to have to trim the panel a bit and make the hole bigger so the plug can fit

No, aftermarket pedals Toyota sold for the Tacoma since 05...I haven't got the "gas pedal chop" and refuse to do so because I have these installed

I guess I won't be buying new Toyota truck anytime soon. I need my lighter in the truck.
I hate when things like that pushed on me. I smoke and that's my choice and nobody's business. Dont need car company to "make" me healthy.

From Toyota...they're like $6-8 each...you slide out the plug, remove the back part of the cover because it wraps around the plug and slide in the new one  let me i got a pic of the parts bag

Things a man NEVER wants to hear from a woman!

:facepalm:It's nothing to do with the car company making you healthy. They couldn't care less. It's economics.

First time I got a car without an ashtray, I remember thinking, "Well where the hell is my change supposed to go?" I still remember cars with the little ashtrays in the back seats.

I doubt this is Toyota "making" people be healthy. They are just designing for the most common demand which now days is power for various electronics in vehicles. It sounds like you can still find a lighter/socket aftermarket and install it pretty easily as well as get an ashtray.

And if you really want I'm sure you could replace the stock radio with one that has a cassette player if that appeals to you. :D

I quit smoking a few years ago and still carry a disposable lighter in my center console. Never know when you may need it -- Comes in handy when camping to light fires or open beer bottles!

Who's buying beer that doesn't have twist off caps? Are the bottles stubbies, too? You might not want to drink that.

Well I don't drink beer so I wouldn't know this. I got teased the other day being told that they just can't see me wheeling because of my wheels. :(

Now I'm in the market for a PreRunner.
