If you can swing it stay at the old faithful lodge. Its a really cool place to stay.

Do a little research about some of the geysers and their timing of when they go off. Some can go off from every 30 to 90 minutes to only once a month. That way you can plan a route and hike times to be able to watch some of the obscure geysers. Some of the mud pits might be a little dry at that time?

    And then of course.

    Don't feed the bears.

Don't try to pet the buffalo/elk.

    Stay on the trails.

    TRD skid painted black,
Hard to get rooms in the park with short notice.
We stayed out of the park and rode one of the tour buses.
Well worth the money as you can sight see and not worry about driving around with all the nuts.
The drivers are great and communicate with each other for animal sightings.

Being from the great white north you are most likely aware of the ( yes they are wild and will hurt or eat you animal protocol ) wildlife rules more than some of us amerikans.

We toured the north one day and the rest on a second day.
    Have fun it is great.

Oh by the way it is a huge volcano cauldera that the park is on! :D
