Today I hauled 1700 Lbs of hardwood flooring about 25 miles. It did sag and it bottomed out on the bump stops on the large bumps in the road. But then again with me the wife plus the load it was way overloaded. If I had remained withing the ratings it would have never hit the bump stops.

Any bets the 2013's are still equipped with these worthless springs?

Didn't take any pics. I was too busy humping hardwood.
    :)

    Now I gotta install it.
    :(

I was amazed at how well it handled the excessive weight. I was hauling about 1.5 times the rated capacity.

I don't see why everyone claims that they are "worthless" springs. They ride well and they do handle the rated payload as well as any truck I have driven.

my 2010 had the TSB 4-leaf done.

    I have no complaints.

Moved ~1,500lbs of sand about 15miles mostly uphill and potholes, was me and 2 workmen...was totally surprised it made it...felt like it stayed on the bumpstops the entire way lol...it sagged hard but it made it, so thumbs up in my book too...had it in 4wdh...things felt skittish in 2wd...

I have a feeling your opinion will change on those springs by the time they are a few years old, especially if you continue to pack anything close to that weight on them.

FWIW, The TRD OR does not have the 4 leaf, it has been mentioned they used the 3 leaf for better flex. I was at the dealer and checked the TRD TX Baja and it had the 4 leaf...wouldnt that need the flex or did Toyota revise that to the 4 leaf?

I rarely ever haul that kind of weight, my wife doesn't ride in the truck very often :). If I routinely hauled in excess of the rated loads and the springs shit the bed then it would be my fault and not the Toyota Engineers. I accept that.

I think a lot of users judge the springs by the arc. Toyota Leafs Springs have always been rather flat compared to other trucks. I remember my 1980 4X4 and they were flat also, but they worked fine for years....

That's ridiculous. My truck couldn't handle 300lbs without hitting the bump stops. Do the 2012's have different springs? Otherwise, if they're the same, there's no way in hell my truck could've handled anywhere near 1700lbs. Those of us that denigrate those pathetic springs do it for good reason based on years of experience.

How much hardwood did you carry? Square foot wise not weight... That must have been a large load!

I carried about 10sq feet of sand ( 1k pounds). Wasn't in the stops but definitely hit them. 4 leaf pack

I just posted this in my tsb attempt thread, all the DC tacomas at the dealer here have 4 but all the access cabs have 3. There aren't any trd's here to compare. Why, Toyota, why? I'd love to hear a reason for this.

Possibly true, but my 83 4x4 had 5 rear leafs IIRC. I once packed about 3500lbs of gravel in it , the longbox was full to the sides and heaped in the center. I didn't go on the highway like that, don't worry. The suspension handled it about the same as my 06 did with the 3 leafers and 7-800lbs, but I bought the truck used so don't know how they were originally. Perhaps the three leaf packs in your 12 are not the same as previous 3 leafers. Maybe they improved the alloys or tempering process, I guess time might tell.

I've never gone above ~500lbs either in the bed or tongue weight and l hit the bump stops going over speed bumps now unloaded. Also one of the friction pads worked it's way out not too long ago. Toyota claims the Tundra can haul more than it's rating if you believe the commercial with the rancher but the Tacomas can't even handle the rated payload capacity

Just give them time... they will start to sag.

I have the 3 leaf with a Toytec AAL and after a couple years, mine are starting to sag even with the AAL. The 200 lb Leer cap and pulling a trailer a few days a week has worn them out.

I'm gonna get some Dakars over the winter. I plan on buying a skid sprayer (50 gallon tank, pump, Honda engine, and frame) over the winter for my lawn care business so that'll be 800ish pounds full of water/herbicide when it's full.

Even the 4-leaf TSB pack sucks imo. Loaded with camping gear for two weeks for four adults, bed was sagging a bit. Considering its not that much weight I'd say its pretty pathethic. :( I can't imagine having 3 leafs at all.

My 2012 TRD Off Road has a 3 leaf pack. But I thought I read somewhere that Toyota had reengineered the 3 leafs for 2012. I havent put anything super heavy back there yet, but I do know that it sags a LOT less than our 93 pickup did. So far it seems OK to me.

this.... I had (1) 31" snow blower in my bed and I was hitting the bumps. OP must have been riding on the bump stops the entire way and never noticed it until they popped off the bump stops and back on.

I was told by the service manager that the 2012 off road has a updated progressive rate leaf pack?? This is my 1st Tacoma but I pulled my boat a few weeks ago and it weighs close to 6000lbs and the rear was not sagging at all, I was very impressed!

Give it two years. They'll be flat. Ask me how I know.

Anyway, when the time comes, pick up some of these (Photo by Rich Beauregard). They can actually handle use.
